Is there a drawback of only having the o2 sensor thats in the o2 housing? The one on my downpipe has cut wires and I have a new 3 inch one so even if I wanted to reuse it I couldent with out drilling and welding a nut on the pipe. To much work for just an o2 sensor. Any thoughts.........??

you can make an oxygen simulator. i am currently in a similar situation with 3 in exaust and no cat... trying to have no CEL. i have read that i can put the o2 sensor in the car at it will trick it to think it is reading o2 from the exaust. but since u have no o2 sensor.... i would just build a oxygen simulator. instructors are in vfaq. you could also try searching old forums... i found a lot of info by doing that. all the rear o2 sensor does is "test" to make sure that the cat is working, so it is not critical to have one... or a cat.

I thought the 1G had only 1 O2 sensor to begin with. But no, as stated the front O2 (in the O2 housing) is the important one, the rear would throw a CEL if it's not hooked up without a "simulator" http://www.vfaq.com/mods/O2bypass.html . The second one only checks for CAT operation. Or maybe someone had a WB in previously and just stuck a NB sensor in there to "plug the hole". I would think the latter, especially if it's in the down pipe in front of the CAT.

He's talking about an oxygen sensor put in with a bung to add an air/fuel gauge in the car. And yes, there's only one O2 sensor on 1g's stock.

Nate- It depends on what you're trying to do with this laser. If you just want it for a daily driver like you were talking about then I'd say leave it because you won't need an air/fuel gauge if you keep it stock. Even if you wanted to go farther with it you could always pull it off later and drill it for an O2, say if you put a 16G or 50 trim on there.

I'm currently running a wideband in lieu of the front narrowband sensor with the simulated narrowband output supplying feedback to the ECU. I've heard people advise against this for one reason or another since I installed it, but I've had no problems with it so far. When I hooked up the sniffer in the tailpipe on the dyno, my wideband numbers were dead on with the dyno log, so it's not an accuracy thing. I installed it over
6 months ago, so I'd like to think if it was going to fail prematurely, it would've done so by now.

Just another alternative to consider if you plan on going with a wideband but don't feel like drilling a new hole.

A/F gauges don't work. Do some research on narrowband O2 sensors and you'll see why
What we were talking about is that the current downpipe he has is already tapped for a wideband with a wideband in it, and he was wondering if it was even worth it to drill a bung in the new exhaust for this wideband. Also when I said guage I was talking about a innovate wideband, not a cheap aftermarket narrowband. The guy he bought the car from put the downpipe on from one of his other cars that was running a innovate LM-1 wideband.
