I live in MA. I need to get my sticker in october. I have no cat and my check engine light is on. I also think i have a leak some where in either the downpipe or the manifold.

Is there anyway to pass emissions with no cat. If not what high flow should i get. And am i right you cant pass with a leak either. So if i have to replace my manifold i want to upgrade what would be an afforable upgrade that will supply a nice power gain to replace the cat goin on.

Not sure if its the same by you, but in Illinois they look under the car to see if the cat is on, you would fail automatically if there isint one.

do they just check to see if the Check Engine light is on, or do they do an actual visual and smog check? If its just the check engine light, you can bypass your rear o2 sensor and "fix" the check engine light, it will still work properly, it just wont pick up the rear o2 code for NO CAT.

It is possible to pass the sniffer test without a cat. However, with the visual test, as stated, they will automatically fail you. Is your manifold cracked or did you just blow a gasket or what? If it's a gasket, I'd suggest fixing it before you go to the test. Prior to popular belief, a cat and muffler will not hinder performance if the correct ones are purchased. You simply need a high-flow cat and a straight-through muffler. These are specifically designed to not restrict.

well i have the N1 turbo cat back. What would be a good brand for a cat.

Your Check Engine Light Is Probably Your O2 Sensors. And Catco Or Magnaflo Arent Bad Places To Look For A Catalytic Converter.

what would the hp difference be between no cat, a high flow cat, or say a universal by catco

HP differences with cat/no cat on turbo and supercharged cars are more dramatic than naturally aspirated cars. Its just about pointless to go NO CAT on a NA car. Turbo cars pick up alot of horsepower when the STOCK CAT is replaced with a straight through TEST PIPE or HI FLOW CAT.

I think there's a good example of how much gain is made with the different exhaust pieces. If you have strict emissions testing, I say go with the HI FLOW CAT. You will still make more power, and be LEGAL. If emissions are not a problem, just get the TEST PIPE to make the most HP.

yeah i really dont want to put a cat on. The big issue i having the check engine light on because of the no rear o2 sensor...

Say if i get my check engine light cleared and then go to get my sticker without it on does it show up when it plugged into the computer

i guess i will try that then i know a lil shady place that they said they could prob do it for me if the check engine light is off so i will get it cleared and go and try it if not i have 60 days to get it all fixed and then try again

Get the engine light fixed because i know a lot of state emissions programs in the northeast plug you car into a computer and see if the drive cycle has been completed in order to pass.

Yes, by clearing the codes all you do is reset and unset the monitors. If the monitors are not set it will not pass the enhanced emmissions tests. It will come back that the car is not ready for testing that equals a failure. To set the monitors you must go through a drive cycle. Just an example a lot of peoples engine light is on for something as simple as putting gas in their car with the engine running. Which still fails enhanced emissions testing. The reason why is because the tank pressure sensor checks to see if the fuel system is holding a vaccum while the car is at idle for 2 minutes or more.

Just do the "rear o2 sensor bypass mod" if thats your only CEL. Then you wont have to worry about it. It's pretty easy. Check out the tech section, or do a search for "o2 bypass"

If you do that when its plugged to the emisssions machine it also checks to see if there a response from the sensor and if you bypass it it will fail the light on the dash is only half of the problem. The vin is checked and sensors. its a koer test.

yeah im not going to risk it im going to get a high flow cat and a new rear 02 sensor. And for my manifold leak im going to get the GT EVO as a replacement.
