I want to upgrade to a 2g maf and 550 or 650 injectors. Not exactly right now i have a few other mods i want first but from what i hear you should not run a stage III chip with out an afc and a logger. I have also hurd if you get a custom chip by using your a/f maps and timing you can have a great tune and never have to touch or worry about anything. how is this done? do you go to a dyno and get all the info or something then email it in and get your chip custom that way? i have no idea what all that means or how i would go about doing it. If this is true would someone explain in detail how you would do this. from step one to having the chip installed.

Im getting a chip from www.dsmchips.com from a guy named Jeff . I hear hes really good, Im really interested in the whole chip thing also, its ideal at least for what im looking for. You dont have to have a safc but it wouldnt hurt if your trying to fine tune everything. Talk to AndyMoraitis about the chip thing because he runs one and I believe he doesnt/ or at least didnt use safc or even a logger with his chip.

this is what got me thinking of the custom stuff. http://homepage.mac.com/andymoraitis/GSXarticle2.html
I understand about the chip and how you can fill in the stuff and get what you want but it still says you need an afc in the faq. is this because when you just buy the chip it is using stock a/f and timing tables. I am interested in the part where you need nothing but the chip.

An AFC is always helpful, but it's not an absolute requirement with custom A/F and timing maps unless you need to tune separately for race gas. I used a race gas chip but since I only run pump on my current setup it's not needed. As an example, I always recommend an 11:1 A/F ratio for every pump gas chip. For a 1G with stock compression, I would suggest 18 degrees of peak timing advance and if you have 2G pistons, I'd suggest a 2G timing map with a peak of 16 degrees of advance.

It's pretty simple. The rest of the settings are ones you would pick yourself so that's all you need me for but once you decide what injectors you'll be using I can come up with all of your settings and either PM them to you or post them here so that other understand the basic methodology.

Enjoy,

Andy

ok so i will be wanting to use 650cc injectors. I have never ran race gas and dont see it getting ran anytime soon.

I guess i am a little confused i thought i had to take a/f and timing maps of my specific car and send them in along with all the other stuff i fill out on the dsmchips web site in order to have a quality tune with out having an afc.

if 11/1 af is recomended and 18 degrees is also recomended then doesnt it come stock on all dsm chips ordered.

Jeff only changes maps as a special request because as he would tell you these chips are not a tuning solution although I've successfully used them as one. If you don't ask for custom A/F and timing maps, you'll get the stock ones and the performance is nowhere near as good as the custom ones.

That reminds me. I either need to update my web pages or trash them. Jeez that stuff is old.

ok so i have decided on 650cc injectors what are all the settings that i tell jeff besides the 11/1 af and 18 degrees timing and the ones i fill in when i order.

I need some more information first.

1. Are you keeping the AFC for fine tuning?
2. What's octane gas will you be running (i.e. 91 or 93)
3. Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge?

Get back to me with that and I'll put your settings directly in this thread.

no afc, dont have one
91. what would happen with a different level? Just curious
yes. I run 15 psi. it spikes at 15.5/16 then holds at 15(if thats even important)
