PS line...why does it loop in front of the radiator?

I'd like to know this because I know that many people just remove the metal loop in front of the radiator and replace it with rubber hose. Well if that works fine, why in the world did they route it the way they did in the first place? I was thinking maybe for cooling, but then I'd think eliminating it for rubber hose would be harmful. So why is that and how does the ps line work anyway?

I'm asking because I'll be ditching it when I mount my fmic.

They put the loop there as a way of cooling the ps fluid. Your ps fluid doesn't get that hot unless you are really working it, such as autocrossing. Just make sure you get high pressure chemical resistant hose when you replace it for your front mount. I got mine from NAPA and works great.

That's great advice guys, thanks. I'm going to remove it and if I dont need any longer line I'll just use the factory section. Otherwise I'll get that napa chemical proof high pressure stuff.

The loop is supposed to be for cooling.

I removed mine and just used the factory hose to re-connect. It was free. :thumb:

I'm not sure if you can do it like that on a 2G but let us know.

I bypassed the cooler the same way you did when I did my intercooler install. Currently I notice no ill effects; the fluid is still bright red like it should be. If I start to think that I should install a cooler, there are aftermarket transmission fluid coolers (radiator-style) at my work for less than $30, so I'll most likely install one of those eventually.

Good to know the 2G cooler can be removed this way also. I have not noticed any ill effects either. Here is how mine is routed. I have the spring on the line to ensure it doesn't kink. Ahh! loose wire alert! Always more to do...

Just an example of over engineering from the factory. There's really no need to remove it, just bend it up and behind the metal brace its bolted to and it will sit there totally out of the way.
