can i just make a 20g out of my 14b? just by swapping the 20g compressor wheel and housing and rebalancing it?

This is possible, however you may want to swap out the internal bearings of the 14B if it has alot of miles on it, or your new "20G" won't last very long. All of the parts should be compatible though (center-piece + turbine housing should all fit). Might end up costing as much as a new 20G =)

You can fit a 20g turbine wheel into a td05 compressor housing. If your going to use the 20g compressor housing, and compressor turbine, you might as well just buy a used td05 20g or td06 20g.

I'm almost positive the 20g uses a larger shaft than the 14b and 16g. In that case, a full rebuild would be required. I would contact Forced Performance about this, they've done this kind of thing before with their Sleeper 16g

You can buy the 20g compressor wheel and compressor housing and directly replace with your stock , you need to get it balance and may want it clipped to help spool, dsm007 has done this mod cost a little over 500$ where as a new 20g cost up to 1000$ , you can get your 14b rebuilt at your local turbo shop ( i know theres one because we live in the same town ROFL ) i know hahnracecraft sells the 20g parts, majestic turbo i believe sells them too. all you should need is the compressor wheel and the cover and on vfaq theres an article on how to make a little bracket to retain your internal wastegate to make it an easy direct replacement.

Ooorrr you can get the 20g wheel and have your 14b compressor housing machined to accept the 20g wheel this is what you call the bastard 20g ( makes for a great sleeper turbo:thumb: ) but the top end wont be as great as utilizing the 20g comp cover.

Why dont you just look into buying the SlowBoy Racing Bastard 20G. Its got 16G housings but yet on the inside is in fact 20G. Its what they like the call "the ultimate sleeper". It would be something to look into. Although if using the 14B housing is what you have your mind set on then go for it if it will work.

LOL i saw that right after i posted, i just posted and then read the replys, my fault.

Go from a 40 roll down the highway against a 20G and see if he complains about lag LOL.

20G is an awesome turbo, good for the street, yet will yield you 10s and 500whp with boost alone so its good for the strip. I would recommend it to anyone, along with the T3/T4 50-trim.

Careful about the streetracing comments.

Also keep in mind that stuffing a large wheel into a small housing will cause surge and decrease the life of the turbo. You could do what compression suggested and get a new cover along with everything else, but then you'd be spending as much as a used 20g. I would suggest going the full 20g path if you wish to upgrade.

Yes I agree with that, the 20g wheel stuffed into a smaller housing can cause compressor surge, and I would also go the route of a td06 20g so the turbo's efficentcy range will be better, and will cheat less heat pushing the same boost as a 20g wheel in a tdo5, and this will lessen the oddsd of knock from not making the intake charge hotter from being pushed from its efficency range.
