So i have a 97 2g Eclipse with a 1g block and a 2g head. Just did a leak down and my engine is bad. My comppression is low and uneven, leaks at intake and oil cap and exhaust. Which sucks cause i need alot of work done. I was wondering if a whole 1g engine would work, since i aready have a 1g block, wireing and C.A.S in the car. Should i try to fix what i have with a local machine shop, or buy a imported 2G engine. What would you suggest, im stuck on this. If you need to know more about my setup, let me know im new to this DSM game. Thanks Guys:dsm:

hah, Thou Shall Not Bump..
I believe some old guy said.. I'm sure they'll give you an earful.
Well what do you want out of it? The cheapest solution to a running car?
You have a few options.. Depending whats wrong with yours, its really unclear(how low and uneven compression, exhaust and intake leak where? in the head?
You could probably have your whole long block rebuilt buy a shop for around 1500.( But depending what specificaly is wrong with it you might be able to get away cheaper)
You could buy a JDM engine, slightly cheaper
You could buy a stock new rebuilt engine, from 1100-1400
You could buy a new built engine, 1650-2500
You could go junkyard hopping and pick up an engine for 500 I imagine.

It really all depends what you want to do with the car, what your plans are, what kind of situation financialy your in..
Good Luck!

Ii would go 6bolt everything.head,block.The 2g head is so small on the ports. The 1g is huge.(unless you port the 2g head which can be ported bigger than a 1g)I say stay as far away from the 7bolt as you can.IMO.I hate the 7bolt and will never own a 7bolt.Good luck on the the way you go.

you diddnt reply untill i bumped. sorry for that but i need to get someones opinion. so a whole 1g engine will work if i have a 6bolt block aready in? it leaks at the head, coming from some intake valves and some exhaust valves i think in the 2 and 3 cylinder, and 1 nd 4 cylinders are in need of rings. my copression is low, like 115psi in two cylinders, 140 in #4cyl., and in cyl.#1 its 120psi. so i know that this engine is in need of a rebuild or a new motor all together. any and all opinions are cool. thanks again

so im wondering if a whole 1g block and head will work with my 2g intake manifold and exhaust manifold? will this basiclly be a 1g swap in a 2g, wasnt the 1g rated low power then the later 2g, from 195hp to 210hp. anyways the simplest way to fix this problem is still unclear to me. i have alittle money, need to buy what would be best. thanks again

IMO, go with a 6bolt block (2g pistons, 1g rods), 1g head, 1g intake manifold, 2g exhaust manifold and 02 housing, 1g turbo (14b), 2g throttle body elbow. I would take that route if your trying to stick with stock parts.

Your best bet, would be to rebuild you 6bolt shortblock, and get a 1g head. 2G pistons on 1g big rods are good, you'll have to get the pistons machined to fit.
You want a full 6bolt swap, keep your 2g exhaust manifold(Flows better then 1g), get a 1g Intake manifold(i believe the runners are larger, because the 2g head intake ports are smaller) Get a 1g throttle body as it's larger and will bolt up good to the manifold.
Pretty much what spoolin said.
Now depends how much money, and how spimple you want to be. Also depends what kind of power your pushing towards this car, if you have big plans for it, and have the money, might as well build your engine up right the first time. If not, a stock build will work good.
What mods do you have, or plan to have?
Would you be reuilding it? is there a DSM shop around there you trust that could rebuild it? Ask them, and get a quote. Or you might just want to buy one off sbr, buschur, ffwd, karking, overbore, etc etc.

overbore, etc etc.
From what I hear, dont go there.SBR has some good blocks. My buddy has one built from there and 20k miles later its still pumpin:dsm: !Thats who im goning with prob.IMO

Hmm, from what you hear? Would you like to link some evidence about problems with overbore engines? I did a lot of researching about a month ago when buying an engine, and the one thing about overbore I did forget about, was that they seem to take a while to ship, since they custom build every engine with whatever rods and pistons you want.. Normaly 3weeks. But everyone who got there engine, said they havent had any problems..
And for 1650, with your choise of rods, pistons, etc. a 3 week wait isnt too bad(how fast do expect an engine online?)
Post useful information.
SBR is nice, they take a while to ship too(even though everytime i've ordered havent had a problem) but there are dozens and dozens of reviews from people how it took them so long to ship, and screwed up there order, etc etc.. They're also good and expensive. Like any name brand.

Here's some links for checking out vendor reviews, also can do some forum searching on here normaly to turn up stuff

Like i said from what I hear. There has been a few locals where I live who was upset about there engine.Thats what i ment.never looked into it online because i would go to SBR.
