Like he said. Replace both the balance shaft belt, and the timing belt. As a good measure, replace the auto tensioner on the timing belt. I also recommend replacing the idler pulleys. The water pump is a good idea also at this time. No need in going back in later for a leaking water pump. If you are not sure as to the procedure, it's been discussed in here a whole bunch of times. Go to VFAQ.com and download the procedure. Print it out and follow it religiously. I mean RELIGIOUSLY !!!!!.

Good Luck

Also, as a good rule and to prevent an encounter with our very overworked moderators, don't bump your posts. One good post with all your information is sufficient. More than that and you may find out what a Defiant is.

ding ding ding. i was impressed but also lucky i wasnt driving it at the time. should have taken the time to do it b4 though, i kept putting it off.

Obviously there is no bs belt, did the belt get caught up in your timing belt at all when it snapped?

thnx for the advice, i know how to do all this stuff, i just thoguht id share my discovery. got all the pulleys and tentioners and belts to replace, water pump... im debating. and might as well replace the head gasket while im at it

Oh man, those suck to have to buy. I needed one with my head install. I could not for the life of me find a good condition one on classifieds, eBay, anywhere. I eventually had to swallow my pride, and go to the dealer for a ringing. It ended up only being like $72, so I guess that's not too bad.

You can find one at Slowboy... Timing Cover
