97 ecu into 95

No, it wont even crank the car up or at least a 97 ECU wouldnt crank mine up one time and i have a 95 GST. Just back fired and never would turn over. BTW why would you want to? Your car has EPROM, the 97 doesnt. Find another 95

thanks guys. my friend has a awd 95 that isnt running right now so i thought id trade him for the time being, it being an eprom, and i dont think he'll be using the eprom to his advantage when he starts modding

Unless you have use for an eprom such as dsmlink or custom burned chip, it really won't do anything for you. As a matter of fact, even with dsmlink, I prefer to use my stock ECU with stock fuel.

This brings up a question for me. I've done some searching, found bits and pieces about things that do/don't work between ECU's. Is there a comprehensive list of DSM ECU compatibility? I searched the forums, vfaq, 1000q. Could be I'm using the wrong terms, but does anyone know the link to the comprehensive list? Thanks!

Didnt know you had to switch over the plugs. I just figured it was coded different and only tried it once. I know that not all of them come with it but most do, few 96's are lucky enough

It works the same way when using a 95 ECU in a 97-99. The only thing that sometimes poses a small problem is the need for CAS inversion. If you have a Keydiver chip or DSM Link, this is easily handled.

Literally swap the two outside positions on the coil and then do the same with the two inside positions (1 goes to 4 and 2 goes to 3). It's so easy even I can do it and that's saying something.

haha thanks andy. another question, how come its possible to swap a gst ecu into a gsx car?

I'm fairly sure that the only difference between the GST and GSX ECU's is the speed governor (GSX doesn't have it). Other than that they should be identical. If you think about it, it's the same motor with the same fuel and timing maps. There's no reason it shouldn't work.

Know what I mean?

It has to work, cause I'm swapping my 97 ECU for my brothers 95 EPROM. He's such a good guy. Saves me a bunch of cash. Now I just need 600 bucks for the link! hehe.

Now, my friends 91 manual had a 92 auto ECU in it and it didn't start. Don't know if it was because of the different injector sizes or what, but he swapped in the right one and got it running. We never did figure out how the wrong one got in there.........weird.

ive searched and searched like 15 pages.... this is the best post ive seen so far about this, after i put a 97-98 ecu in my 96 talon tsi i have to switch the plug wires and thats it right...... The cas sensor is only if ## going to put a 95 ecu in a 97-98 right ? please tell me so and if not if i really do need to fix my cas wireing is there a step by step or vfaq manual on how to do it cause my mechanic hates wireing LOL hell build a motor just wont want to wire it
