whats up i have a few questions. the other day i was driving aroung town with some local dsm'r and after a nite of crusing i was on my way home and opon leaving the stop light shift 1st clutch 2nd and then i heard this loud clunking noise while in 2nd so i put it in 3rd.. no noise rest of the gears still no noise only 2nd. got it home and had my dad look at it he thinks it is the syncos in the tranny what do you think please help im discouarged :( that i keep having problems when i just bought the "great running car" and no i havent beat on it any help would be greatly apperciated thanks ryan

Most likely a syncro. When my 2nd gear syncro was bad, I just drove around going 1,3,4,5. Kind of a pain in the ass, but each time it grinds, the more wear and tear thats being put on it, which means the sooner its going to break.

Try changing your tranny fluid with some syncromesh and see if that helps, usually you can mask the grinding for a little bit, other times you can't.

Was the syncro grinding before this clunking noise? Usually they grind before breaking, but you never know with these DSMs:p. I would pull the tranny and send it to a shop that will give you good turn around time, thats the only way to fix it.

This sounds like some solid advice. From my personal experience, with a bad synchro, the car will not go into that gear unless you rev match. If the synchro was worn, the gear would grind everytime when trying to put it in. So I don't know if the synchro is your culprit, definately sounds like something internal though. Pull the tranny and send it off.

If it is constantly clunking while driving, I don't see how changing the fluid will help, but it is cheaper than a re-build so you could try that first. To me it sounds more complicated than that though.

thanks guys for the advice thats why im glad i joined this site.:thumb: i am going to take my car to a performance trannny shop down the road and they are going to take it out of the car send it out and reinstall it. he said turn around time is usually 3-5 days so ill see. ill let you guys know what happens thanks again:thumb: :dsm:
