So then I was driving, then my oil light came on, then I noticed a loud clicking noise. I pulled over immediately, then I checked my oil. I had like 1/4 an INCH of oil NOTHING, i'd say probably about half a quart left. No idea how. My friend brought me 4 quarts, then I put it all in. I turned on the car again, waited about 2 minutes, and the noise remained. It didn't go away. I then drove the car home for about 10 minutes, and the noise never went away.

The car didn't overheat, no coolant spewed on the ground, never stalled, idled perfectly, and pulled just fine. The only problem is that the LOUD noise I believe the be the valves with no pressure.

I need help. Do you guys think my oil pump is bad, and replacing it would fix it , or do you guys think I need a new motor for my car?

Please help ! THANKS!

THIS car I was driving is a second gen n/t . a 420a. thanks again

The clicking sound could just be the hydraulic lifters. The low oil pressure was probably from it being low on oil. You have an oil leak somewhere...I think that you'd notice it if you were burning that much. Just get under the car and start looking for leaks first.

On second thought...how did you know that you only had 1/2 quart in it? You usually cant tell that from the dipstick. You would of had to drain the oil to determine exactly how low it was.

Actually once you get about 1-1/2 quarts low it wouldn't even show on the stick. If you were actually down to 1/2 quart of oil the engine would have been toast.

As stated, I would find out where the oil is going and get that issue fixed. I definitely wouldn't be "getting" on it until the issue is resolved.

As far as damage goes...depends on how low it actually was. Hopefully it just needs to "pump up" the lifters.

And from that point on take a look at your cars condition a little more often than "just when a light comes on". It definitely doesn't hurt to check the oil and water at least once a week....hell, I pull the dip stick, twist the cap and look under it before I start my car every morning I drive it, but I'm just an anal SOB.

If you could still read oil on the dipstick and you added 4 quarts of oil you probably over filled it change your oil to ensure proper amount of oil is in it then start it check oil pressure if you have a gauge if not I would just buy one (it is a good idea to have one any ways) then ensure you have pressure then get back to us it could tkae either primming the system or run it a little longer for your lifters to pump back up after running the oil low. My sister ran her oil low and it took about a half hour for hers to pump back up. Hope this will help you out. get back to us if this dosent do it.

The stick showed "max" , not a CM past it.

The car runs, just an EXTREMELY loud valve sound. Any ideas on how do I get rid of it?
New pump should free the lifters?

Thanks !

Wait, I drove it for approximately 15 minutes. Never past 3K rpm (after re-filling the oil)
The lifters ROARED the entire way.

So you think I should leave the car idling for 30 minutes ?

*EDIT*

Do you guys think I should run some seafoam through the crankcase to free loud lifters ?
