Sunday morning I noticed that there was some kind of thick dark green substance all around the rim in the front left. yesterday, the check engine light came on. I'm wondering if anyone has an explination of what that green substance is and if it has anything to do with the check engine light. The car still seems to run fine.

The green substance in your wheel rim is possibly from a torn CV boot that's slathering grease as it rotates. Get under the car and check the inboard and outboard CV's for any leakage or tears. Also take a look at the shock to make sure it hasn't blown.

As far as the CEL, the only way to tell what it is is to have the code read. A local Autozone will do this for free. Once you have the code, you can reference this tech article:

Let us know what you find,

the CEL had something to do with my O2 sensors-this has happened before and I know its not important. I havent had a chance to check the CV boot yet.
