This could just be me being paranoid, but at any rate...

The timing belt is right on the edge closest to the valve cover...is this normal? Why would it be settling here instead of right in the middle? All so, the belt is slightly worn on the top edge...the one facing you if you are looking down at the Timing Belt. Im assuming this is normal because of how the belt goes on...the side the lettering and Mitsu part number used to be on. Let me know... thanks

I've always seen it on the edge of the cam gears. I assume this is normal. The belt is wearing on the top most likely from a bolt in the oil pan rubbing on it. There are a couple oil pan bolts purposely shorter than the others because they go where the timing belt passes.

What do you mean? Can you post a pic. The timing belt should be right on the cam gears. The gear is the same width as the belt and it should be evenly on there. If its right on the edge do not drive it before it comes off and you kill you head.

This covers both issues, the rubbing, and further down there is a pic. The cam gears are about an 1/8th of an inch wider than the belt. Mine has extra space on the motor mount side, this pic there is extra space on the motor side. I'm under the impression this is normal and is like that for a reason. There is no lip on the cam gears like there is on normal pulleys, so the belt can move from side to side, theoretically. If there was no wiggle room, if the belt moved it would hit something.

Like my profile says, I do not have stock cam gears, I run fidanzas. It is not hanging off the edge of the cam gears, it is even with the rear (valve cover) side, meaning I have space on the side closest to the mount.

The wearing on the top is not scoring the belt, its a small amount of surface wear, enough to take off the painted lettering that was on the belt. Ill read the link and see if I have any other questions.
