Alrighty, When i shut off the engine, and let the car sit for a little and then come back out to it. turn the car on. the Turbo makes sort of a ticking sound while spinning until the car warms up or oil flows, the turbo will stop making the noise soon after. Does this mean the turbo is being deprived of oil on when turning the car off? Would a Turbo Timer help? new oil feed line ? i have no clue ... help please :)

Does this happen after you run the engine hard and shut it off? If so, there could be damage to the turbo because of the lack of cool-down time.

If it happens all the time, I'd check for shaft play on the turbo.

Also, not to doubt or anything, but are you sure its coming from the turbo and not somewhere else and simply echoing off the turbo? Just asking because lifters will cause that sound until oil lubes them up if you're low on it.

usually happens all the time weather i run it hard or not. as long as the car is warmed up, and i'm pretty much positive its the turbo. like i said the noise goes away shortly after the car is warmed up and oil is flowing. If it was shaft play would it make the noise all the time?

I do let the car cool down for a minute or two after i drive.

Did you check for shaft play on the turbo yet? Did you look inside the compressor inlet to see if the compressor fins are scraping the inlet walls?

If there's in and out shaft play, oil pressure flowing through the turbo will have an effect on how much the shaft moves. As pressure increases, it'll move more and vice versa. The only way to really find out is to pull the intake and have a look.

Let us know what you find,

Andy

if there is no shaft play then it's probobly a clearance issue with your fins/housings. you have several different metals inside a turbo iron, steel, and aluminum. All three will expand and contract at different temps.
As your turbo heats up your clearances will change. My guess is that you probobly have a bent fin or too much shaft play.

Although since it's a "ticking", It's even more possible that you may just have an exhaust leak somewhere around the turbo and that too would change with tempature and engine speed.

To diagnose it you need two tools, a mechanics stethascope($10@harbor freight) and a 24-36" piece of 5/8" hose. use the stethascope to find mechanical damage(turbo damage) and the hose for leaks. The stehascope is pretty simple, put it in your ear and probe around! the hose you put up to your ear and "scan the area" to find a leak. When you get close it will get louder. You can pretty much pinpoint the leak to a 1" radius!
For the price of a 16g now seems like a perfect time to upgrade!

Nicely said and some very good suggestions.
