my cars oil is reading high like a 1/2 in above the top notch. What I think the problem is the oil pan is dented. so my ? should I put the reccomended amount of oil in and have it read high or less than reccemended and have it read even with the notch. Also where could i get a oil pan at.

Are you sure you have correct dip stick? unless you have a huge dent i dont think i would read 1/2 inch above.

I would used correct amount of oil

How much oil did you put in it? Did you put the proper amount in, then dent the pan and the reading is now 1/2" higher than when you first put in the oil?

If you just did an oil change and haven't started the car yet, the oil filter hasn't filled up yet. This might account for the excess oil.

Actually, I found that it doesn't affect the reading much. I had my engine sitting for 2 months without oil in it to do my turbo swap and other upgrades, and after I filled it, the oil didn't noticeably drop. I figured that the motor was about bone dry by then and that the oil that normally doesn't have time to settle in the pan would account for some as would the filter oil and any in the turbo, but it didn't make a much difference at all (stayed at the top notch).

no the correct amount is in and no i didnt just change it. also is this harmfull. what shoul i do?
