Niagara,
Alright, so I'm looking to remove my "wind dampers" from the doors of my 2g talon. Has anyone done this before? I searched, but I couldnt find anything that matched, perhaps its becasue they aren't called wind dampers. If anyone can give me some tips and maybe show me some pics of the car without them. I want to see how many holes are going to be left to fill, my car goes in for paint soon, so this will be extra body work for my paint guy, so I want to see how much extra work I'm dumping on him.
I took a look at one and peeled it back a bit, and it just looks like its held in by tabs. Let me know what you know. Thanks in advance.

They are called side starkes or something like that. I removed them from my doors and quarter panels. I still have 4 holes in my doors and 2 in the quarter panels. To remove them put pressure on once side and they will pop off with the tabs still attached to it. A body shop I went to quoted me $200 to weld the holes while doing a paint job. Here is my pic.

Strakes.

It will come off the ground without them. "Zoop", right up into the air and over onto its back like a stranded tortoise in the Gobi, its little wheels flailing around in the atmosphere. Then you'll look like a fool, I can tell you.

:shhh: No one else needs to know how to make the car "fly"

In all seriousness though; I assume this mod is for pure asthetic reasons and to each his own. You will have some holes left when you take them out. What you can do is take some time and put a little bondo in the holes and even it out, then just repaint over the bondo with your factory color. If you take your time the you'll only notice the repainted area a little bit.

Defiant - You always crack me up. :)

I was told by a body shop that bondo will eventually end up coming off/out because it is not waterproof. The best thing to do is to weld the holes. If that doesn't seem doable due to funds, then the next best thing is fiberglass reinforced bondo.

are strakes similar to the fish gill slots on the side of the 1g and if so what is the purpose of removing them? What do those gill looking things do anyways, ive heard that they help remove interior air or something?

Are we talking about the 2gb Talon door ribbing? I thought it was on with double sided tape? I don't mean to hijack thread, but do 2gb talons have side skirts? Because if not I'm going to have about 8 holes in my body under the doors.

We are talking about the plastic piece on the door and the quarter panel.

No, 2gb Talons don't have side skirts.

Yeah I'm talking about the plastic pieces on the door and quarters. I guess wind damper wasnt the correct term, it seemed fitting at the time when I was deciding what to call them.
Thanks for all the input, paints only a couple days away, so I'll see what my body guy says. Thanks again.

Bondo will do fine until the door's slammed, and then you'll look like you were out late in Stockton. Amongst all the Bondo horror tales, I've never heard the water story before.
I'd think you could buy earlier doors for what it'd cost to have the holes welded. And yes, the strakes all have holes under them- unless someone's put early doors on the car and then taped them on.

God, why did they ever do that to the nose of the Talons. I just can't abide that rodeo-champ belt buckle.

The gills on the 1G are for flow-through ventilation. They do not breathe any better underwater due to them.
