Could a bad front 02 sensor cause my car to smoke at idle? Before my smoke problem started I remembered seeing smoke come from the 02 sensor. Any thoughts?
I need to get my car running so I can sell it. I can't aford the gas.
so I think I'm going to give in and get a 06 eclipse gt

No way man, dont get rid of you car for the new eclipse. Those things are horrible, I ate one up the other day easy. I would sell it and get an EVO. You are smoking like crazy and thats why you could see it coming from the o2 because it was not sealed good enough. You need to do a compression check, the rings may be gone.

First off, is it black smoke or whitish gray smoke. Black means too much fuel. Whitish grey means oil burning. If it is smoking at idle it is due to either a bad air/fuel mixture, oil passing by the rings and burning in the cylinder or oil passing by the valve seals and burning. If it happens more when you first fire up the car it's most likely the valve seals. If you do a compression test and it fails its most likley your rings and you need a rebuild. I'm not seeing a fuel controller in your vehicle profile. With those 650's you will be runnin real rich with no fuel controller (IE: SAFC). That could be causing the smoke.

yes I have a fuel Controller. the safc II. I dont plan on getting the new eclipse anymore due to fwd. I want something with awd. thinking maybe the subaru wrx or if I could find a evo for the right price I would fo sho get it.
I went to this auto performance shop last week to get a quote on a stock rebuild of just the short block. This fool told me 5grand i was like WHAT. I can get the rebuild kit off slowboy for 500 bucks. I wonder how much the dealer would charge me?

5 grand? thats stupid, no way in hell would you spend that kinda money on a stock rebuild.

A stock rebuild, if you pull the motor and bring it to someone, should not cost more than $1200. I got mine for $1000 and that was with fresh 2g pistons and 1g rods.
