Crank Sprocket Removal Tool

I'm in the same boat as dogg2, and will need to break the sprocket free. But isn't that tool both overcomplicated and risky? Why make a tool with all kinds of measured bends, when you could just take a longer piece of scrap metal and screw it into the pulley holes with the excess pointing toward the ground? Since you'll probably be sitting on the ground at this point, you can just put your heel on the excess to immobilize it, and also use it for traction as you pull on the breaker attached to the sprocket nut.

Seems easier to make, more efficient to apply, and you don't risk snapping that single bolt that would have been immobilizing your tool during the application of force.

To loosen the sprocket bolt I followed vfaq method and worked easily. Put 1/2 breaker bar on the sprocket and rest it against the axle and turn the starter over for a second and it breaks it free easily.

To tighten it..... I made the vfaq tool and it worked fine.. Just make sure you tighten it after the timing belts on that way if it moves your safe with the head. If you dont wanna make that tool then get it tight as you can without it and take car to mechanic with air tools and he can zip it tight in 2 seconds.

Sounds like that will work as well if you wanna do that.

Yeah, I tried to pop the starter, but apparently I'd gotten too far ahead in the vaccum line etc removal process, because when I turned the key the car said hell no. I will have to use the tool for both operations..

Theres no way that shouldnt of worked... make sure you have the 1/2 torque wrench set to turn the correct way else its just gonna swing it around. There is no reason at all that it shouldnt work on your car. you cant be doing it right.

EDIT: Do it again, be sure to pull the MPI FUSE so the engine cant turn over..... and if it seems like it doesnt wanna crank further after u tap it turn it over for 1-2 seconds and it will work the bolt loose, thats how i did mine. just dont be stupid with the concept and you will have no problems at all getting it loose safely. As long as you got the timing belt still on there you shouldnt have no problems.. I hope the timing belt isnt off otherwise you will need to do it with the tool instead.

Rest the 1/2 torque wrench on the TOP of your axle and get it loose!!!!! :)

Hope that helped.
