Hi, I've got a little question.
Someone told me, if I dont want to get a wideband to tune wiht a SAFC & Logger or DSMLINK for tuning, I can slap my GSX on a Dyno and make a Dynotune.

Can someone tell me whats the difference and what's special about a dynotune?
How does it works?
pros/contra?

Thanks a lot

Mike

If you currently have the SAFC...

Go to a dyno shop, they strap it on, put in their wideband o2, and they tune it for safety and horsepower.

Pros- dont have to drive up and down the street to tune, you can be lazy and let them do the work.
Cons- costs money, have to retune the car each time you do a significant modification = more money

Well you still need some sort of fuel management before you go slap the thing on the dyno. Such as a S-AFC. But like said, it costs alot of money.

Thanks for the response :)

I really don't know what to do :( my problem I have is that:

I have a FP ported EVOIII, 650cc from forced performance, AFPR, ported EVO III O2 Housing, complete gasket set, stainless steel oil supply line kit, CNC oil drain line, Walbro 255lph high pressure fuel pump, fuel pump kit, a Joe P manual boost controller, better clutch, fp intake and a ported EVO III Exhaust Manifold at home.

A tuner will do the work for me, and he's one of the best here in Switzerland.

Now my question is: He normally works with safc. He knows what he's doing with it very well. He will do the tuning on a dyno.
Now I've heard DSMLINK is much better. What would you do?
let it install with the safc and he's knowing what he's doing with the tuning on the dyno or buy DSMLINK and try and figure it out how it works?

he has never used an other thing than SAFC and I have no knowledge of tuning a DSM either.

PS: all i'm looking for is about 350-360 hp on the crank.

Thanks a lot

If he knows how to tune a SAFC he should beable to figure dsmlink out. Its real user friendly and you will beable to get more power out of it. Go to dsmlink.com and read all the great features it has. My brother made 300whp at 17psi on pump with an evo16g so you should have no problem making the power you want. I think dsmlink would be your best bet.

If you're only looking for ~350 crankHP (~280-300WHP) then that is well within the realm of the SAFC. Plus as you said "your guy knows this setup". You will not really need to re-tune unless you make significant upgrades in the future. Although I would still get a logger to occasionally recheck the tune, and maybe get your buddy to show you what's going on with it. It's the less expensive setup.

However, if you want room to grow, which you probably will after all this, then I suggest DSMLink. You should already have an EPROM ECU with your 95, so you'll save money there. $600 for the setup plus a laptop if you don't already have one. Plus a WB O2 and a 3 BAR MAP sensor and you're "good to go" (but that's an extra $250-300). The Link is a tuner and logger in one. The good thing is during normal DD you basically do nothing except adjust for your injectors. You just tune WOT. Plus you have control over fuel, timing, and air metering independently, unlike a SAFC where fuel and timing "play" off each other.

Me personally, I would go with DSMLink (I run it). It's really easy to use out of the box. The forums will get you all the help you would ever need so you wouldn't even need to go to your "guy".

Hi,

thanks a lot for the good and fast response.

So you mean I should be ok with the SAFC?

I think i'm going with that, because it's much cheaper ;)

Just one last question. Everyone tells me, I will see much better results with the DSMLINK.
What exactly are the better results?

If I'm tuned with the SAFC to 350hp at the crank, and the same hp with DSMLINK,
do we talk about much more torque with 350hp with DSMLINK? or much earlier spool?

thanks a lot

Mike,
I think DSMLink will give you creater control to change more parameters than SAFC. The more extreme the mods, the more DSMLink makes sense.
A 300 HP motor might only get 5 or 10 more hp with DSMlink over SAFC. Making the extra oomph per dollar not a big issue. But a 500 HP motor might get 100 more hp because of the radical differences in adjustability in the components.

With tuning, you may get 350HP max out of both systems, but changing what rpm this happens at and also the power "Curve" can make a difference in performance.

With a dyno it's much more accurate. A seperate system is telling you what your car is doing. With an in car tune, it's relying on the car telling you what it's doing. And might be close, but not accurate.
Not to mention safety and repeatability.

Just speaking generalities to see if that clears it up for ya.:thumb:

You have a wide range of perameters with DSMLink then SAFC. You can have a more precise tune, then with the safc and the safc is at its limits with the size of your injectors, because after 660cc's it cant be exact and there for a lose in HP, but dsmlink can tune it in very nicely so you can get all the power out of the engine, plus with dsmlink you can check on your engine and see whats going on with it, like knock, fuel, timing, ect... From everything that Ive heard on here about it is that its very user friendly, and once you make that extra power you will catch the bug, and be wanting more, then your going to need a dsmlink, so just skip the safc step, and get the DSMLink for the future mods you will do.
