First let me start by saying this is in no way a shep bashing thread nor should it be turned into one because I have great respect for the man. With that said here goes. I just bought a stage 3 with welded diff for my 2g awd. I am just wondering if it is normal for the tranny to be very difficult to put into gear whether the car is running or not? I know people say that his trannies are very tight for a while and I am wondering if this is whats meant by "tight". The reason I am posting this is because I have a very busy work schedule and John can be hard to get a hold of sometimes. Im hoping to get an answer here so I dont waste his time. Any input would be nice, and please only respond if you have first hand experience.

Is it bled properly? That can make the difference. Also is your cable bracket tight to the tranny? Mine was loose and well...trying to drive sucked

Before you drive it anymore, make sure that the clutch is engaging properly, and bleed the system as mentioned above. Did you replace anything else when you swapped the transmission? Does it happen in ever gear?

Clutch is bled and adjusted. Cable bracket is tight. This happens when the car is off and no clutch also. I did not replace anything else related to the tranny when I put it in. Is there any way to tell if the linkage is off on a 2g? When I start the car and manage to get it in gear the clutch grabs a little off the floor and there is no grinding it just does not want to get in any gear.

Well when the car is off is when the problem is. So we can eliminate the clutch bleeding and such. hmmm...

DId you shim the pivot ball or mess with the slave rod?

Negative. My clutch is always nicely adjusted and has not yet needed shimmed or the longer rod.

He is having troubles getting into gear when the car is NOT running so it is not the clutch and people have stated.

It seems like you may need to adjust the shifting cables attached to your shifter. You'll have to disassemble your center console where your shifter is and remove the cotter pins holding the cable onto the shifter. Then you could turn the cables making them longer / shorter. I've also heard that using B&G Syncro II helps a bunch with tranny related problems, but that probably doesn't appy here.

Good luck!

I'd just call Shep and ask him. You paid him so I'm sure he'll be willing to answer a few questions. He wasn't hard to get ahold of when he did my tranny.

2g cable aren't adjustable.

Have you tried driving the car yet? I know after I put my tranny in the shifter felt all shitty until I drove it around the neighborhood once and everything "settled" in. Then it was perfect.
Also triple check to make sure everything is adjusted properly.

Good thats what Ive been wanting to hear. The tranny has maybe a mile or two on it. When I get some time Ill take it out and see if it does better. Thanks.

EDIT: Finally got to speak to the man himself. He said it is normal and after driving it for a bit it will shift fine. Thanks for all the help.
