ok ive searched around for a while and i cant seem to find any results. im looking for a set of cam caps for a 6bolt head. i need all the fastening hardware aswell. does anyone know somwhere or somone who has some? i checked some local salvage yards but they didnt have anything.

On dsm heads, the cam journals when manufactured are drilled with the cam caps installed. this makes the machined holes perfect as if the were one peice. I would be leary of using caps from another head. You never know, 2 different heads may not be exactly alike. This is similar to rod caps. You always should use the original cap with each rod. The difference may not be much and may work fine, but you may also cause things to prematurely wear. It may be just as easy to find a complete head anyway.

I agree with TurboTsiTom, Cam caps are machined for the head that they came from. Its just like differential gears, yeah you may be able to find a new pinion gear with the right ratio, but it will never match the ring gear that was matched to it. Those tolerances are very important. I would really recommend a new head.

And besides, just drawing a conclusion based on the limited info in your post, if your cam caps got broken, there may be other serious damage to the head anyways. I guess if they were broken on the shelf it's one thing, but if something wrong in the motor caused them to fail,best be time to look for a new head. Good Luck
