Well I got my new long block today. And im switching over parts. My old engine was a 7bolt and the oil filter things are different. So I was able to pick up another one but it does not have the coolant lines like my 7bolt. Would it be ok to just hook those lines together and run them with out goin in the the housing for the oil filter thing. Hope you know what im talking about.
 
You are referring to the oil cooler. I would recommend keeping the oil cooler set-up as it helps to warm your oil quicker (less engine wear) and keep it at roughly the same temps as your coolant (less engine wear). Chances are you picked one up from a N/T 4g63 that did not have an oil cooler set-up. If it looks like its missing 2 large fittings, then you've got an air to air oil cooler housing found on the '90 blocks. If this is the case, you will need an external oil cooler, regulator, and the necessary lines to hook it up.

I am being serious when I say this, but wouldn't the term Oil Cooler mean it keeps your oil cool, not warming it up? If I am wrong, I will admit it, but that just doesn't sound right.
 
It is an oil cooler by function, as it tries to keep oil temperatures close to coolant temperatures.It also cycles warming engine coolant through the heat exchanger, which helps warm up the oil quicker on cold starts.

The external oil cooler does this as well with a 'thermostat' that functions the same as a thermostat in your engine cooling system. Alot of systems people make often overlook this component and it can lead to overcooling of your oil.
 
i was talking with bill lowe of shearer motorsports (pink Talon 9.1@16X) about his oil filter ### it didnt have any cooling lines at all and it was forward facing!! Im not 100% sure what car it come soff of but i believe its a NT galant....anyway he has had that same oil filter housing in his daily driver galant vr4 for over 4years with no problems so i guess im :thumb:

Thats what im talking about. I have the forward facing housing off of a 95 elentra I believe and works great. Even my mechanic said I would have no problems and he has one on his 550+whp VR-4 and has had them on his cars for years.
