My GM MAF just came in the mail today, but i still need to get the piping and the translator, so i'm looking at another 300-400 bucks. Would i be better off just going with a 2g MAF? What give you more bang for the buck? And set up wise, what is easier? I'm also getting a 190 or 255 fuel pump (would i just be better of going with the 255? ) and some 550 injectors. I'm more less going for a daily driver with some balls at the track, nothing killer.. I'm not looking to run 10s yet, but maybe work my way down to 12s. Any help would be great. Thanks

If you go with the MAF-t then you have somewhat of a way to tune. If you plan to get the injectors and what not you might want to consider the Translator. If you go with a 255 pump look to spend another 250 or so on an AFPR setup. With the 190 you can get away w/o it.

If you want to ever vent your bov then stick with the Maf-t. Also if you ever think your gonna want to upgrade to a bigger turbo wich will probably happen I'd save your self time and money and get a 255lph hp pump and a AFPR Import evolution has a nifty kit they sell you should check it out.

OK, i'm going to buy the translator tonight, but what should i do about the piping? Should i spend the money on a dejon type kit? And also, when i do the piping, do i just run a strait pipe to my turbo with only the aircleaner hooked to it? Thanks

You could take it to a exhaust shop and have them make your intercooler piping and then just cut it where you want the maf to go and use your couplers. For your intake many vendors carry them you'll want one without a recirculation tube and just put your filter on the end and go.

What do you mean by beaded pipes? Thanks, this info is helping me tons. I'm going to stick with the GM MAF

Since the 2g mas is supposed to give you 50% more air, would that increase my boost and or proformance?

You will get slightly more air flow and some performance increase but not much. Just remember it does not just swap in. You will need some type of fuel management to compensate for the 2gmaf. It has been said that swapping 550's and the 2gmaf would work without a tune. My brother did it and ran for about a year before we found out he was knocking like hell. I also did it and took the 2gmaf out and injectors because I was getting lots of knock. The 2gmaf is great because its easier to tune since you keep the intake temp sensor which the ecu likes. Its good for up to 450whp. I would also recommend the 3gmaf or evo8maf because they flow as good as a gm maf and handle 650whp while still easier to tune than the gm maf

well, i'm still in the learing phase, but i am coming along haha and i wanted this to be my next mod, fallowed by a logger, fuel pump and maybe some 550 injectors. I'm not looking for the baddest of the bad, just something to show off once in awhile LOL so the easier the better and price is an option, just looking for the most bang for the buck. I did a search for an 3g maf and evo 9 maf, but with no luck on ebay LOL

Yea they are hard to find. You can get them at Evo forums for around $100. I would get some type of fuel management and go with the 2g maf not the blow through unless you want the cool blow off sound.

What would you reccomend that i use for fuel management? And thanks for the info!

I've used both the translator and a 2G mas w/ SAFC. I like the 2G mas setup much better. The translator is tuneable, but your tuning will never be dead on since you can only go in 5% increments. You'll always be a tad bit too rich, or a tad bit too lean. It may be different with the Gen2 translators, but my poor experiences with the original translator is why I decided to use a 2G MAS the second time around. If you're going to use the translator, use an SAFC as well. Set the translator up only for matching the injectors you're using and do the rest of your tuning with the safc.

you have all made great reasons why i should or shouldn't go with this or that and i thank you all, but now i'm just looking for the price comparison, as of now, all i have is a GM Maf, would it be less expensive to just go that wayt now? or would it be cheeper to sell it and get everything i need for the 2G Maf? I really do thank all of you for your much needed help :)

2G maf is anywhere from 5-50$ depending on where you get it. SAFC used from 100-200. Then you have to tune it or have a dyno tune it for you. I recommend injectors, 2gmaf, boost controller, boost gauge, and SAFC or dsmlink and have it tuned with that setup and you should see some good numbers.

I think you should sell it and get something that will actually benefit your car. A maf sensor upgrade isn't something that you should be wasting your money on at this point. If you want to go faster, upgrade the fuel system and a get a datalogger. Then you can buy a cheap MBC and safely increase the boost.
