Just bought a custom made 3" turbo back with high flow cat from a guy, and the muffler is a restrictive pos. So i need a new muffler. I want a stright through muffler and i also like the idea of being able to put in and take out a silencer but it is not necessary. I will tell you the ones i have been looking at and tell me what you think. Also cost is a huge factor, or else i would definatly get the N1. If anyone knows of a good cheaper muffler that is highflow and not a fart can then hit me up.

Looking at the:

Apexi N1
Megan Racing N1
HKS hi-power stainless
Magnaflow stright through race series

What do ya think?

What do I think? I think for the most part the exhaust system is a pipe to get the exhaust gas out the back of the car with least amount of restriction at a legal noise level for a reasonable price. I bought an eBay catback 3 years ago (Tsudo) for half the price of a similar product from the manufacturers you mentioned and it's as good today as the day I installed it. It got a little louder during the first year and has stayed the same since then. Sounds better. The assembly quality is top notch and fitment was perfect. If I have to replace the muffler in the future I'll look for a knock off or a clone of the high priced name brands. I'm more interested in function than the name on a part. I haven't searched but I'll bet I can find what you need on eBay right now. Just my $0.02, I think I hear the feathers ruffling...

So in your opinion there is no difference between lets say an apexi N1 and a TsunamiRacer(generic brand) N1 muffler. Im not arguing im just asking your opinion, cause i really do not have any experience with the brands or whatever. I know the Apexi is probably the best of all the circular stright through mufflers but the Megan is just a the same thing cheaper. What im really looking for is a knock off N1 style muffler that still has good build quality and is durable.

Based on my admittedly limited experience with one knock-off brand, Tsudo, I would say the knock off mufflers look as good and sound as good as the high priced name brands. A lot of people here have bought Meagan exhausts and exhaust parts and were very pleased. I also want to qualify what I said by adding that I also believe there are certain parts where buying cheap is no bargain. I would only buy mission critical parts like turbos, injectors or pistons from well known reputable vendors.

You don't have to get it welded but given a choice I would weld it. Back when I was very young and very poor I clamped exhaust pipes. They leak and have a tendency to loosen over time.

When welding them to you just weld end to end or do you actually take one of those metal 3in to 3 inch things and connect them with that and then weld it to seal it and hold it permenatly?

Sorry for all the newb questions but this is my first exhaust.

You see, i bought this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...m=110009945671&ih=001&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT

but he had to cut it twice to ship it, so i have a downpipe, then 3 other pieces so i need to do 2 welds or 2 clamp jobs and then get a new muffler because this one isn't stright through and is rusting out. I have already cleaned it up and wire brushed and painted the welds and cleaned the pipes.

Where the pipe was cut I would use the 3" to 3" couplers and weld them in place. They slip over the outside of the exhaust pipe. 3" inlet muffler slips over the outside of exhaust pipe too so weld that in place. You could put clamps in place of the welds but it won't be long before they shake loose from vibration. I hope it looks better after you cleaned it up and painted it!

I have a magna flow racing series and it is worth the money ...it looks very good and sounds really nice its a deep sound...so just my 3 cents

P.s. it also has a lifetime warranty and magna has been around for awhile ....so if it should ever mess up your pretty much gauranteed to get your muffler replaced...
