Short story:

Car had been idling low for a couple days.

Finally threw a CEL.

Went to autozone, the pulled the code for me. P02##, Idle System Failure

Now, if I'm correct there are two components that could fail to cause this: the Idle Sensor and the Idle Motor, right?

I have a multimeter and my haynes manual for my 1G, should I expect the same readings for my 2g components? If not, what should I find?

Also, can I just use the components from my 1g 2.0 NT?

And how much should I look to pay for the above mentioned components from someone parting out their car?

Thanks to whoever can help.

(I turned the BISS screw out to help alleviate the problem, which it does to an extent, so does that mean that maybe it's just the sensor? Just a thought)

You could be idling low because off a VAC/Boost leak and that could throw the codes since it cant compensate.

Another option is to block off the FIAV and ISC. That way your BISS is the only Idle adjustment you have and its mechanical not electrical.

all the P02xx codes are Injector circuit's
P0201 Injector circuit - Cylinder 1.
P0202 Injector circuit - Cylinder 2.
P0203 Injector circuit - Cylinder 3.
P0204 Injector circuit - Cylinder 4.
P0205 Injector circuit - Cylinder 5.
P0206 Injector circuit - Cylinder 6.

I did a quick look for any broken or loosen vac lines, but I didn't see any nor hear any noticable hissing. And the car is completely stock so I hope I haven't developed a boost leak already.

Hmm, I just did short research on the fiav thing, I'll look into that, but I would still like info on the components.

Well then I looked at the scanner wrong when it displayed the number. (notice I only remember the first two digits at that?)

But it definitely said "Idle System Failure"

That's the million dollar question, are the 1g idle components the same as the 2g? If so, then I'll just take them off of my 1g

Ah, so I can check my ISC on my 2g against my 1g repair manual? That will help alot.

By the way, thanks guys for all the quick replies. I'll be sure to hand out rep points when I'm done with this.

Update:

The good:

The Idle Control System motor on my 1G is the same as my 2G. I have confirmed this by looking up both parts on Autozone coming up with the same part number each time. I recommend this method for anyone with a similar situation as mine where they are trying to figure out if a part from this year/model car will work on this year/modle car.

The bad:

The d@mn motor on my 1G is bad too. That explains why it always had such a crappy idle.

Thanks for all your help everyone

Block off the bottom half of your TB> alot of people do it and like it. Do a search and see what they said about it.

I may later on, but I just need this car running and I'm not sure I'd have time to do that. After I get the new ISC motor, it'll take me 5 or so minutes to install.

This is true. Goodluck with what you decide.

ive got a 2g isc i can sell ya cheep -
Its got a chip missing in the plastic connector - but all the pins are still fine.

Are there any places that sell those block off plates, or any member's that can fab them up for a fee? I just realized that since I'm going to have the car down for t-belt maintenance, I might as well fix that if I can.

I've been so dang busy lately, I bought a used ISC, but that didn't fix the problem and I haven't had a chance to do anything else with it.

The ISC won't set off the CEL- the ECU just assumes that it works, and has no way of telling if it's bad.

You are definitely right, I've been running the car without the ISC plugged in for about a month now just because it doesn't make a bit of difference plugged in or not, and the car hasn't given me a CEL for it again, but it still idles like crap around ~600.

As a not I have checked the resistance on my original and my 1g ISC and they were both bad. I haven't had a chance to check the replacement one yet, but since it didn't fix the problem, there's a good chance it's bad too.

I just don't have the time, skill, or tools to make one of those plates, and from what I can tell, those ISC motors are expensive when new. I'd rather pay $XX for a plate that won't break than $XXX for a motor that might break.

The plate isnt that bad to make, but....you can send it to here http://www.ffwdconnection.com/flow.shtml and have it cleaned and blocked. Thats what I would do if your not comfortable making the plate. ( scroll down alittle for the fiav mod...its 50 bucks)

I did make my plate and it wasnt so bad. Just some metal a sawzall and some nice drill bits. Goodluck.

Blah, the how-to link on vfaq for the Fast Idle Air Valve Blockoff is broken! Does anyone else know of a how-to for this?

Its in that link I gave you. just Block off what that link shows. Jb weld, red RV

Oh well crap, I didn't even notice it pictured that nicely, thanks!

As a side note, is the 1G 2.0 NT TB the same as the 1G 2.0 Turbo TB? If so, I think I'm just going to use that off my 93 NT. I suppose I could just measure it, but if someone can tell me an answer ahead of time that would be nice.
