I'm in the process of selling my current car and buying either some type of eclipse or a honda hatch. I love the look of the 2000+ eclipse models. My question is this. My friend has a 96? GST and told me I am better off getting the 4 cyclinder rather then the 6 cylinder like I was looking for. What are the differences in the 2 engines ? Would I be better off with a hatch and drop an engine in it or just mod the eclipse. I know this is kinda a vague question and there is a lot of answers but I just want to hear some of your opinions. This is not going to be a dedicated racer just more of a weekend racer type of thing, I want something quick and fun to drive but at the same time something I can go out and hand some people their asses:thumb: THanks for any help fellas.

Get the 4-cylinder and if your wanting something that is quick get a gst or gsx. The v-6 is pretty new and mods to it would cost a whole lot of money. The 4cylinders in the 2000+ models have the 4g64 and you would have an easier time moding the 4g63. Get a 95-99 you would be happier with that choice. Dropping engines is a topic that has been talked about alot so unless your just wanting to be unique and have some good fabrication skills I wouldn't swap engines. Be sure you get the gsx/gst in the 95-99 because they have the rs/gs models that come with the 420a engines and they cost a whole lot more to mod but if you have the time and extra money that is always an option.

If you want a "sporty car" get the 2000+ eclipse v6 you like. My mom's got a 2003 GTS and it's fun to drive around. Nowhere near the racecar mine is, but then again hers is alot more comfortable and not nearly as loud or prone to failure.

yes, like everyone has stated, DON"T get a honduh and please get a REAL eclipse if your getting one, as DSM would not include 2000+ unless you want an EVO VIII! :dsm:

and if you also want a chicks car. :tease:

This coming from a guy who owns a car named after an object that was repeatedly humped by a midget in a popular movie. :D

What makes the older model eclipses easier to mod then the 2k+ models ? I don't plan on going to extreme with the engine so that won't isn't an issue with me, I just want something nice looking like the 2k+ models, my opinion though, and quick. All the help is very appriciated.

Honestly out of the 2 cars you are debating between and given what you are looking for performance wise I would go with the hatch. There fun little cars that are dependable and you can beat on them and they'll take it. Not to mention the motor swap options you have with a hatch. I've never seen anyone putting out any kind of power in a 2000+ eclipse.

i would go with the 4g63 if i were you ### there real easy to make power and theres alot of bigger bolt on turbos if you dont wanna spend the money on a t3 or a t4 setup and there ready for boost but thats just my opinion

Thats not entirely true, I have seen quite a few 2000+ eclipses that were pushing out some horses. Just not that many people do it because it cost more than a 4g63 and is time consuming.
