2G-specific Tranny swap questions

hey guys i have a 98 talon tsi, my transmission went out this past sunday-- its an automatic... Could anyone possibly give me any info on what would be involved in converting my auto fwd to a manuel awd? I was also wondering how much i should look to spend in buying a 95-99 gsx parts car?

id say no more than 2k for the parts car unless everythig is useable. and for the trans im pretty sure all you need is a new flywheel new trans of course and the pedals. Ive never done an auto/manual swap before though so there might be alot more involed

if you want to go awd then sells yours and buy an awd 5spd. Its not worth the time and effort to go through for it and it will end up costing more than a new car. Do a search plenty of people have asked the same question.

I misread the original post as an auto to manual swap. Not an auto to manual swap plus adding AWD. I do apologize to joosdawg because I jumped the gun.

It is a conciderable amount of work to swap a FWD to an AWD car you can do it but it is not adviseable unless you have alot of time and ability to fabricate the rear end portion. All things suspension and gas tank are a couple but there are conciderably more things to modify.

You will need to get a set of peddles clutch and brake
Clutch Master + Slave and make a custom ss braided line
Flywheel and bolts
Transmission and mounts for transmission they are different
MT starter
New Intermediate shaft for the driver side.

Thats about all I can remember you should need mine was an awd swap but you should be able to do this under the cost of a good rebuilt auto.
and of course the obvious a clutch

shift cables and arms
mt shifter base
mt center console if you want it to look clean

If you can get a decent parts car then have at it, the problem is if you dont have a parts car and try to sorce all the parts and everything. Here is a link to a site with somone that has converted check it out. http://www.automotivearticles.com/AWD_Conversion.shtml
and this one http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7
The last one has a parts list and as you can see if you dont get a parts car things get ugly.
hellotbone- you had a parts car did you not?
