a/c recharge

So I'm trying to recharge my a/c today..but I have a problem. I found the low port, which is about an inch or so off of the a/c compressor. I tried connecting it to this port but it wont stay on there. The bottle says to pull back on the top of it, but when I do so, it slides back into its original place, changing nothing. Is there some trick to getting it to stay on there? Thanks, Will

Just take you a/c out of the car completely. Less strain on you motor.

Ok I wound up getting it on there...worked best to come up from the bottom. Yay, now my a/c doesnt blow permaheat, I now have lukewarm ac!
