I cant seem to find what the thread size is for the 17mm drain plug on a 2G turbo. If anyone can find out Id appreciate it.

I don't have the numbers you need but they probably exist in the factory manual. It is not uncommon to use some very common thread pitch and size for this application, I would suggest you compare it with 10mm, 14mm, 18mm spark plugs, they do make sizing tools which will provide pitch and diameters.

If you have bad threads in the pan they can be repaired in at least couple of different ways. Just chasing the threads with the proper tap may do the trick. You can go to the next size larger thread which could include a SAE inch size. They make inserts to repair threads just for this application, the profile will look like a very fat stem "T". The stem / sleeve portion will be threaded on the outside and the inside for the correct plug thread. The cross of the T will seat and seal the pan when directions are followed which may include the use of Locktite to hold the insert in the threads.

The problems you will face will come from using drills and taps other than a clean up using the original thread. Compressed air is the most common where it is introduced through the valve cover such as the PCV port or the oil filler cap while using the drill and/or tap to blow the chips out as you work. You could pour a quart of the oil you just drained out back through the system to help flush any escaped particles.

If you don't have a good source in a tool supplier store then flag down any of the tool suppier trucks that frequent repair shops and gas stations. Snap ON, Mac, Proto, Cornwall are some of the more common.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
GTM

That was a very useful post that will help me later with my friends starion, but my only problem right now is that I have a small small small drip(maybe 2 drips a day) from that bolt and I want to put a O-ring around it. There are a hundred different sizes of O-rings and they only come in boxes of 10 so I dont want to just buy a bunch of them so if anyone has the manual that can check on the bolt size, mainly the girth. (ie. M1.75, M1.5, ect.)

Copper would be a better seal then then rubber O-ring? I was hoping to not pull the plug since I just changed the oil, I was going to pull the O-ring over the bolt afer backing it out. I new O-ring should stretch no problem.

If anyone wants to know or searches for it. The plug is 14MM by 1.5

[ That's what a search would have told you.]
