Lethbridge,
Hey,

I have an odd sound from what I can tell is coming from the belt side of the motor. The local Mitsubishi tech says it sounds like belt noise, and it should be fine, anothor said "Thats your turbo, it makes that noise", I laughted. Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: let the clip play about 8-10secs before i crank it over.

sounds like a new serp belt to me. both times ive replaces a serp belt, thats the way it sounds for awhile. unless its coming from your t-belt area, then i dont know. sounds pretty cool to me, as long as it doesnt cause problems.

It doesn't sound like it's coming from the T-belt, more like around the alternator or lower. Anyone else have any idea's?

According to the last owner, (I 've owned the car for just over a month now) the last T-belt change was @ 110000 km's (68750 miles), and i have 179000 km's (111875 miles) on the clock now. So i'm close to a t-belt change.

Uh huh, you could also take off your top T-belt cover to get an idea on how worn the belt is, and just to see if the noise increases when its off. It could be that you have a bad alt pulley, umm, a couple of things really, tensioners bad, I couldnt really hear anything on that clip, but check the tensioner on your serp belt, see if its got enough tension on it.

Thanks for the reply. Try to listen after i rev, theres a whine like sound when the rpm's start to decline. I'll post another clip with the t-belt cover off. Also the t-belt looks good, from what i can tell theres still life left on it, but i'll be changing it in the next couple months.

Ill listen to it again, but ya, post another with the timing belt cover off, just to see if the noise happens to increase, but I dont think it should.

EDIT: Sounds like a pulley to me, I hear what your talking about now, my volume was down a little, anyway, check the tension on both your belts, and try pulling the belts, and spinning the alt pulley, check the tensioner, thats really all you can do to find that noise.

Its always good to run the gommut in routine maintenance when you first purchase a DSM. You never know if the previous owner is telling the truth, has dates wrong or what. These cars can go very wrong if they aren't maintained properly. Especially with something relating to the Tbelt and its surrounded belts.

Thanks for the tip. I have done a lot of maintenance on the car as of date (It feels like that's all I do anymore). I did not mention that I do have service maintenance records from the previous own. He owned the car from 80000-177000kms. I'm in the processes of making a time-line to see what was done when.

When I bought the car it did have a lot of minor problems, which compounded with each other and made the car feel like a POS. I think by the looks of all the receipts the guy was sick of forking money over to have the car fixed. LOL, lucky for me, anyways this and belts are the last items on my list before I start turning up the boost.
