Another update on my 90 laser rst I had my exhaust redone and my timing reset all the goodies go to pick up the car he wasnt quite done with the timing, so i stuck around and watched it didnt seem right to me he was just rotating the cam gears with his hands by the sprocket didnt actually break anything down after instalation watched him replace the tensioners etc, we cranked it a few times before starting it to make sure it was ok timing stayed so cool got in took it around the block was awesome got back to the shop pulled in gave it a lil extra gas and then started making the smae sound like the exhaust was off again pop the hood put it in 3rd roll it forward to tdc my exhaust had jumped again, my BEAND NEW tensionser was bad from my chrysler dealership and they wouldnt get me another one to replace it said they how i drove my cars. how the heck in 2 days since i bought it from them would i do enough damage to do that, so i guess what i am asking now has anyone tried one from the parts houses like autozone pepboys Napa carquest etc if you have how did it work out i am a lil pissed at the dealer and i probably wont be buying parts there again, even if i do have to driver 2 hours to a mitsu dealer.

do the problems ever end when your turbo'd?

First off, you need to fight your dealer. No amount of crazy driving within 2 days will cause that much wear and tear on a brand new autotensioner and timing belt components. It is painfully obvious that whoever did your install did it incorrectly. I would escalate it until you get a resolution.

Secondly, do NOT use anything other than OEM components for your timing side. It is way too important to skimp out on. Check out Conicelli or Mentor Mitsubishi for OEM parts at a 25% discount.

Lastly, Since your exhaust (cam, i think?) has jumped timing.. determine how bad or how many teeth it was and hope to goodness that you didn't bend any valves.

pressure test came back from the machine shop and it was 180 across the board sounded good to me i thought it was only suppose to be 170, i am just really irritated at the dealer if ya know what i mean, and it was just irritating that i just pulled it back up the hill to the garage at the shop when it jumped cause it sounded awesome till i slammed the gas pedal down then it jumped i was off about 1 1/2 teeth is what it look like my intake was still dead on and my exhaust went off again i know the guy that did it and he has done many nt's which is why i took it to him mine is the only turbo for like 40 or so miles and closest awd is like 60 miles but they arnt Dsmers im about done with it i have gotten lucky not have any mass damage with all the idiot mechanics around here ###### dumped close to 2 grand in getting things running right i was also wondering with the exhaust off will it make the turbo sound like its going out? slight grind? kinda worried bout that didnt seem bad when i drove it till after it jumped anyways got to get back to work later guys and thanks for the help.

Anything on this?

i,m guessing there was an improper tension on your belt.did your mechanic guy have the special tool for the tensioner,or just rough it,either way i,d say your tensioner is fine.the belt just was not tensioned properly.dont have the book in front of me but there should be so many lbs of torque on the tensioner in respect the belt will slip, jump or wear premature[overtight].

yeah i know he didnt use the tool he just eyeballed/felt for it i guess i never saw him use anything special i wish i would of done this myself but i dont have the time for it between my job my daughter and school, my biggest problem is that i have had the car for almost 8 months now and drove it maybe a total of 50 some odd miles do to minor problems this one could of been a huge one i thought i had heating issues but my exhaust cam was off and blew my manifold gasket and was melting my covers my fluid or motor wasnt running hot which is why my fans wernt kicking on cause while the timing was right my fans did kick on in the shop. and why i asked about the turbo was because it sounded raw while the exhaust cam was off.
