I need new exhaust manifold studs. 2 of mine have been broken off since the day I bought it. I just noticed it when I took the heat shield off yesterday. The manifold is sticking out a good 1/2" away from the head.

So my question is. Where can I buy them at? I looked on Advance website and they dont have them. And the only ones I have been able to find on the net are like $100.. Im not paying that much for some bolts....

Thanks

I went to a local hardware store and just got them there, just make sure to get the right thread pitch for the head. Cost about 8 bucks.

I grabbed mine through extremePSI.

For those of you who have removed the bolts though, how easy is this to do? I'd like to replace mine as well, but am a bit worried about major down time since it's my daily driver. I know I have one stud broken off already from the previous owner, but I haven't had the chance to take the exhaust manifold off and discover whether it's cracked inside or outside of the head yet. I'd just hate to start marring up the threads with vise grips while trying to twist them out, only to have them snapping off in the head. I'm also curious how easily the new ones thread back in?

I would advise not doing that. Thoes bolts are not automotive grade and will crack the next time you try to take them off. My father did this to his '71 f250 pickup. He used a lower grade bolt for an exhaust manifold and when he had to take it off, well the bolt broke. So the truck has been sitting in our garage for, oh, 6-7 years and now it needs to be drilled out and a helicoil put in (BTW helicoils suck a$$).
Never ever:)nono:) use non automotive grade bolts for use on the block. But they are good for anything else.

I found mine at the local hardware store as well. I found 'heat treated' studs after digging for a while (as good or better than what came out). The thread size is a metric 8mm x 1.25mm x 120mm (long). This is a very common thread size for our cars and you will be doing yourself a favor to have a few tap's that are this size in your toolbox. :thumb:

I got mine much cheaper than I could have on the 'ssstuds.com' site and mine were 'heat treated' and the correct length as well.

Be careful shopping for these studs online as many of the places selling them are selling studs that are a little shorter than the factory studs. (You need a min. of 120mm in length)
A stud that is too short can cause hell if you have an aftermarket header with really thick flanges. It is better to be a little bit too long if you have headers than it is to be 'short'...

Good luck with your project! Hope I helped a little. :thumb:

I got mine at slowboy racing. Listen to the above speaking ^. Anything (are atleast most) at the harware store is not automotive grade. They are not solid and are sometimes filled with a softer metal. When you go again to take them off, they have been so heated that they will snap right off. I went to slowboy racing, great service, awsome parts, and even better to brighten your day.... OEM.
