I am going to have to let my dad drive my car about 60 miles and I do not want it making boost. He understands the concept of how the car works, and the load dependent boost, however I know for a fact that he will not be watching the vac/boost and will probably be making at least a couple psi the whole way without knowing it.

I know that I could just pull the cotter pin and the arm off the wastegate actuator but I'd rather not... when I swapped this turbo on, the cotter pin had galled in the whole and I had to drill it out, it was a huge pain in the ass to get it on. Is there any other way to make the car boostless???? Can I just crank down the mbc? Or maybe pull on of the vac. lines or something like that??

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

More specifically, pull the cotter pin from the wastegate/actuator pivot, and slip the actuator arm off the post. You can either leave it swinging free, or use a bit of wire to 'tie' it open.

No. You could open it all the way (so you essentially have a vac/boost line hooked directly to the actuator), but you would still build a few pounds of boost... probably between 5-10. For zero boost all the time, detach the wastegate actuator arm from the wastegate lever. Only other way would be to attach it to an external pressure source, which would hold the WG open all the time. :b

Just pull the pin and slip the arm off. It takes all of two minutes, tops. :b

No you will still create about 10psi of boost with the boost contoller all the way down. Without a different wastegate, or psi spring for a wastegate, this can not be changed. Your best is take the arm off.

Damn... I know that was my best bet but like I said in the first post, it took a lot of work to get that thing on with the turbo OFF the car... I can't imagine that pain it will cause me to reattach the arm with the turbo ON the car.

Anybody else? Defiant? Steve? Help!!!!

I dont understand why you wont let your dad drive it as it is? What could happen during this 60 mile trip? How are you supposed to drive when on a trip. Interested because I might have to lend my car to someone and this situation has me wondering.

Why don't you want to let your dad have a little fun?

Yah, I dont really understand the point. Just turn the boost way down and leave it at that. I let my dad drive my GSX sitting at 23psi all the time, he just knows if he breaks something, he buys me a new something ;)

I am curious too. Are you afraid he's gonna be racing or trying to do some burnouts or something? I don't get it..

yeah it sucks you cant juts turn your boost controller all the way closed, because the spring in the wategate will still work to its max 10ish psi.

really let your dad enjoy himself...and if he enjoys himself too much and does not know anything about cars, you can have him buy upgrades haha, jk

This is why I don't have kids yet! Just turn the mbc all the way down and explain to him what you don't want him to do, old man can learn as well, "we not as dumb as you think we is". Let him have some fun, I'm sure he has done enough shit for your ass. :)

LOL. I hear ya, just know this....if your 40 or older, then ya beat me, if not, well...maybe we should swap screen names... :shhh: :sneaky:
No way, you're a rookie. :p LOL my age is in the profile, no need for a poll.

HAHAHA Besides IM as old as or older than Oldman...LOL To the original poster, just bypass the MBC if you have one. That way the Wastegate will only let the car make stock boost. It shouldn't cause any problems at it's stock setting.

Yup! just checked your profile. I am definetely the old man here! :p But back to the original question here. Just keep your foot out of it and watch your boost gauge man! I stay out of the turbo all the time, so long as your not making boost your good to go. It actually takes alot of practice, and man are you slow, but it is possible, and alot less work then disconnecting things. I actually tried it for awhile to see if it would save gas.

Run a line directly from the compressor outlet to the wastegate. Unless you have boost creep issues, you'll never see more than 10 psi.

Man, I let my dad use my car all the time...He loves it...Hes a big V8 dude..But he likes my talon. I know he has fun in it, but wont admit he floored it. I cought him once, I rode with my buddy. It was hilarious

Yesterday, while driving my car back home from college, the car started doing a wierd noise while it charges up the turbo boost. When it reaches a bit over 7PSI, and as it reaches it, it makes an annoying squeeky noise... Like if something in the turbo was loose and causing the noise. It reminded me a bit of the supercharger whine. I'm not sure what this could be, but it worries me and figured I should ask for help here... See if anyone has any ideas as to what it could be and how it could be solved. Any ideas?

The car is a 1991 Eclipse GS-T, A/T [13g turbo]
