As it says, they seem to me to be pretty damn similiar, except that the SBR Package will cost me 200 more than the FP Big T28, and the SBR will take alot longer to install. Also the Big T28 seems to spool at around 3200 RPM and the Evo III 16G seems to spool at 3500 rpm......

I have an auto so I think I might go with the T28 since it spools at a lower rpm, but then I will be giving up on the upgradeability later on down the road.......

Doesn't that SBR Total Package come with an exhaust manifold. I would go with the SBR Total Package. It comes with an exhaust manifold, not that hard of an install; because it comes with everything you need to install it, and it outperforms the T28. And I have read the EVO 16G spoolin as early as 3100 rpms.

I once had a FP28 and was happy with it. I laid down 291 AWHP and thought I was doing alright. Then I went to a HPDE and got my !@# handed to me by Carrera’s and ZO6’s. Not wanting to loose my low end I upgraded to an Evo316. When looking at my Dsmlink logs the spool is similar. The place I really notice the slight loss of low end pull is at part throttle conditions on hills. Then again when I look at my logs its nice to see that my airflow per rev isn’t dropping once I hit the middle of 5000rpms.

It’s your call though. With an automatic tranny you might feel the loss in low end pull isn’t worth the added top end.

There are many many T28 vs Evo III 16g threads. The install of the MHI turbo really does not take that much longer than a T28 install. Their spool ups are more or less the same (unless you want to argue over a few hundred RPM). The Evo III has however logged higher airflow numbers than Big28's.

You don't look like you have the supporting mods to run either turbo at high boost however, but you'll be harder pressed keeping the Evo III happy at low boost pressures. Porting and (more extreme) the 34mm flapper mod will help, although the flapper mod will eventually hurt you when you try to actually run high boost.

I'd buy the EVO III 16g/7cm, unported, unclipped. If you like it fine, if not, go on the trader and buy a used 6cm turbine housing, port it and slap it on. You should see an improvement in spoolup and your torque band should drop 300-400 rpm or so.

As much as I like my T28, I've never been impressed with its spoolup at low rpms, although it does hit extremely hard. Fastest spool up on my small 16g/6cm/clipped combo was 2800 rpm on my old 91 Eclipse automatic. Best on my T28 on my 97 GSX manual is like 3100-3200 rpm.

I plan on doing alot all at once. I'm thinking now that I will go with the FPBigT28, with 550cc injectors, a walbro 190lph fuel pump, 3" custom turbo back exhaust, Apexi SAFCII, Apexi Turbo timer, Dejon 3" intake tube (already have a cone filter), Dejon LICP, Supra sidemount, and some form of wideband O2 meter/sensor/gauge, shift kit, IPT A/T Boost Controller (really a shift computer and has nothing to do with boost, but they can call it whatever they want I guess) and then call it a day.

I am hoping for 300-320AWHP SAE (Albuquerque is known as the "other mile high"). I don't want to go much higher, because I don't want to build the tranny except for maybe a hightorque stall.....

Think that, along with my current mods, will get me there???????

Also, do you think that I would need to go to ARP's for the head yet????

When I made 291 awhp that was with the boost set to 20psi dropping to 17 by redline and with 92 octane in the tank. That was also before I installed the cams. I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t reach your goal with some race gas and proper tuning. Then again I am not familiar with the amount of additional parasitic loss an automatic transmission creates.

If you are going to get the FP28 make sure you spend the extra money to get it with the 17psi actuator. Also, if you are dead set on squeezing ever little ounce of airflow out of smaller turbo like the FP28, then fabricating a cold air box would be a good idea. Whenever my intake temps would get much higher than 110 degrees I would have to richen things up to fight off the knock. Building a CAB will not only increase the density of your intake charge but can also help ward off knock. That’s my 2 cents.

You still need a datalogger with that, but beyond that, like WFO-TSi said you may need FP's 17 psi actuator to hold boost to redline in order to meet your power goals. Otherwise your mod list looks like it'll be fine.

At this point your choice of turbos is still open. Both the T28 and Evo III are within your price range, and it seems like you don't want to step up to a medium sized turbo yet. Thus you still have your choice of what you can do, so if you aren't 100% set on the T28 yet try searching for some more comparison threads.
