My insurance finally settled up with me from my wreck.......I have a nice hefty $6800 check with my name on it.......so I figured what the hell might as well turn the ole TSi into a 4 cyl. monster......but as I make known in any other thread I've started, this is my first import, so I'm lost on what and where to get my stuff from.

A buddy of mine said I should take the catalytic converter off and put 3inch all the way to the manifold....is that possible? Would it create any type of back pressure? If possible what is a non-weeder sounding muffler I can get for a reasonable price. (note) I dont want to buy an outrageously high muffler.

thanx

HI, this is joe, @ www.groundzeroracing.net it just depends on what you want the car to do (ie.:: times). pm me or feel free to aol im me at wkd20L8. our prices will not be beat. if you have any questions let me know. joe

its a very BROAD question your asking about , itll take some talking to you to figure out what you want to do with it, but we can help you figure it out, even if the parts are not bought from us , i would be glad to answer any questions you might have. joe :)

ported head, sheet metal intake cams, cam gears, forged pistons and rods act 2600 , TURBO (how can you choose) fmic, walbro 255 660's S-afc, all supporting gauges, ported o2 housing ported exhaust manifold, boost controler, 3" dp-test pipe 3"catback damn did i go over budget?:p

Enter contest. Win contest. Have my unveiled turbo and a full sponsorship for 12 months.

If this is your first import listen to everybody, and make up your
own mind! Their are package deals to get everything at once
to make your car EXTREMEly fast that save money, but if you
are going to pop your cherry it is better done slowly. Allowing
you to learn more about your car as you do the upgrades,
actually feel the difference the upgrade made, and hopefully undertstand why you did it.
MAKE A PLAN!
If you have no goal you will never reach it. In setting your goal
keep in mind reality. The stock bottom end for 6-bolts will
hold around 450whp and 7-bolts around 420whp. You can get
more, but damage is emminent if pushed much further. So if
your goal is higher than that your engine will need some work
in the future, but you can start creating the enviroment for
higher HP if you know your goal ahead of time.
I would goto DSM.org as it is the base of knowledge. Then call different suppliers and see which ones you like (do not say I have a check for $6,800). Remember you are the customer and they work for you. Always shop around! Look at different sites. I am not directing this comment at an earlier post please call him he offered advice for free, but anyone who tells you I have the lowest price on everything is impossible. Their is no such company! There is always a better deal. Unless of course what you are looking for is only made by them.
ASK QUESTIONS
Every question you ask might seem dumb and people might even laugh, but we have all been in your shoes and those laughing either forgot or did not lose their virginity in a kind way.

To answer your question:
Believe it or not, the question about the muffler is a great place to
start. I always tell people to start with exhaust. The factory is very restrictive and a place where you can feel instant HP. If you are new to imports I am assuming you are new to the woderful art of turbocharging. The best exhaust for a turbo is none. Take your goal
into consideration. Do you want to buy exhaust again in three months when you realize the size you got was not big enough? I would recommend a 3" pipe. We tried 4" and did not add much difference for the unbelievable fittment issues. So 3" o2 eliminating vented to atmoshpere downpipe is what I would recommend because of performance and sound. This is loud! The wastegate on your turbo has its own seperate pipe, and when you are driving around town it will let people know you are there! When you actually start getting on the car you will notice the sound is not as loud and you will feel the increased HP gain immediately! If you are looking for a certain kind of resonance on the muffler and designs I would get an 02 eliminating vented in. It has the seperate wastegate pipe so you still get the elimination of the O2 housing but vents back in to the 3" pipe so no sound at all. You can buy exhaust in pieces. From turbo to cat. If you want to take the cat off you can get a test pipe. You will not pass emissions. I produce Turbo back 02 Eliminating pipes with mufflers I can let you hear. They are $899 for Aluminum and $1099 for Stainless! Look around see what you
want I would look to MachV for some tricked out mufflers though.

Extreme Turbo

Hmm...for $6800....

I would get something like this. (since you have a 2G)_

--3"O2 eliminator turbo back exhaust(custom runs ~$500_or so)Add a resonator or muffler of your choice($50-250).
--Extreme Turbo MUTT turbo.(your choice--~$1300 or more)
-(comes with new intake pipe)
--Extreme Turbo FMIC...$600>>and piping...$350
--New BOV--greddy etc..($225 or less)
--Buy a new air filter(K&N/etc...)$100
--port your exhaust manifold...$100
--Buy and install 1G intake manifold/throttle body(and possibly head)--$300-500?
--Fuel pump, injectors, S-AFC($150, $450, $325)
--Clutch(Spec stage 3 is the ****!!...($300/shipped)
--Flywheel if ya want it(RRE lightened is $125)
--Light underdrive crank pulley...$120
**(more engine work if you wanted>>but it's gonna cost ya!)
--Suspension>>Shocks($500?)
--Springs/coilovers($350 or less)
--Strut bars if you want them(~~$125/each)
--OH yah, and I added this>>ARP headstuds...$110
*****Just using my top Dollar figures from every item above....you looking at $6600!!>>>not including any labor and not including the wheels/tires below.***** The list above would likely run low 12's daily and would handle great to. :D

--rims and tires would be on my list.($1500 for some nice ones)

As I said, just the above list of stuff would probably get you running low 12's in my book--and on pump gas when setup properly.
Faster than that would be possible...but who knows. A built motor would be GREAT!...but for me atleast...it would cost a CHUNK O change.(Rods, pistons, machine work, cams, springs/retainers, valves, port work, cam gears)
And on and on the list can go.

Laters
and Good luck!!

Joe, I like your Stainless Steel downpipe nice piece. Do you have one that eliminates 02 housing? I also noticed turbos. Have you seen mine?
Would you like to help me and DSMTuners with a prize?

I will post a list of what we have Joe and what we really need is a clutch.
For a clutch kit donation I will link you to 6 databases.

Its not so much databases as tell everybody you helped the contest and do you know about contest?

find someone that went from 2.0 NT to T and pay them a few hundred bux to personally advise you on what you should do - they have the experience on what you would like to do and they would most likely keep you from making the same mistakes they did.

Thanks to everyone for all the great info

I spent 2 hours reading and printing.

I think it would not be as hard to figure out what I wanted if I was sparatically saving and buying parts.

How is it possibe for me to run 3in to the manifold? Do they have to cut the manifold out a little? Would get good performance with just a regular stainless steel pipe?

I'm going to do the exhaust this weekend, so I need to figure it out.

Joe I will be contacting you for info and quotes....thanks a lot man.

pete----- thanks, we dont have a piece that eliminates the o2 YET, we are trying to figure an inexpensive way of doing it. we do offer the ONLY 2 pc 1g intercooler kit that is side to side with no cutting, only 3 couplers in the whle kit! also your turbos are very nice, as far as the clutch goes , let me see what i can work out with cmi and ill get back to you. thanks for the compliments, you guys are doing a great job with those turbos!

jerith=== just call or email me if you have any questions, and some good phone time! or i can call you since its long distance. take care, joe

kevin--- i appreciate the business, i'll try to answer ANY questions directed my way and if i dont know , ill find the answer for you , theres no such thing as a dumb question! Im not out to make a killing , just to help in any way i can because i remember the days when i had to buy retail and couldnt get ANY help on pricing, or with my " dumb" questions,( i had 13 yrs background in car audio and some with mechanic work, so the import motorsports kinda fell into place. ) just dealers trying to rape me on pricing, i SWORE i'd never do that! I do it for the sport not to get rich. thanks guys, have fun and take care. joe

Im looking for suggestions on how best to manage my money. Ive got a 1993 Eclipse GS with a 2.0 NT. I can only spend about $400 for right now, and I want some better-than-stock acceleration and maybe some top speed. Its a stick by the way.

why be an a$$...if your not gonna answer his question then get the fock out of this thread

i would suggest getting an intake and exhaust. right there is going to be around 400 dollars. maybe more. try to get a cold air intake and a full cat back exhaust. good luck

just do what you want. im 16 and everyday people tell me to save my money and not buy parts. i dont listen because i want the mods i want. get the parts you want as long as it makes you happy.

I'd suggest a trade-in for a turbo. you get more hp for the $. NT maxes at about 140 stock, compared to over 200 with the turbo. And turbo's can be modded to have much much more hp as well.

From one NT guy to another (a.k.a. I wont tell you to go buy a turbo car)

Definately go intake (I had the injen intake on mine), but definately hunt for some free mods first. A good set of tires (prepare to kiss your $400 and maybe then some bye bye) can help with handling, as well as strut bars, which btw are pretty cheap. If your car hasn't been tuned up in a while or checked out, I have always been a firm believer in the occasional trip to the shop for an inspection.

I know online somewhere there is a staged upgrade guide for the NT cars. Unfortunately, I sold my 1G NT before I did too much to it. Now I have a 2G Spyder.

If there is one thing that you can never escape with driving an NT DSM is people always telling you to go buy a turbo one. Not saying I wouldn't like one, but the insurance on them sucks!

I agree with thespydaguy as i also chose the NT route and you can make power without a turbo, i know most people do not think so but it is true. Go with CAI,, and then a full cat back exhaust, but 400 is not that much to start with but better than nothing. 1st up injen cai intake and save up for the cat back.

Do not listen to those that say an NT can not make power, or tell you too sell your car and by a turbo. I bet half saw fast and the $*%&# and put NOS as there first upgrade.
