Here's an online petition against unlawful vehicle inspections and general harassment by law enforcement targeting automotive hobbists. This applies to CA resitents only;
http://www.petitiononline.com/AH4G63/petition.html
I know I've been pulled over for speeding... while stopped at a light (true)!
I signed it. :thumb:

The California Legislature disallows online petitions.

Write a letter to your Assemblyman about why you should be allowed to break the law. (There's no such thing as an "unlawful" vehicle inspection. All the officer needs to inspect your vehicle is probably cause, and an aftermarket tailpipe or wheels will satisfy that in virtually all courts here.)

Lots of good luck in that endeavor.

Closed.

what do you think we should do? It's gettin waaayy to out of hand

I agree.

Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to convince as many people possible to petition your state government to alter or rescind these laws. I don't really see that happening, as tickets generated by this law fuel a rather lucrative demand for money on behalf of the state.

EDIT: Damn, I'm literary.

yeah just give up.

california lawmaker dont give 2 shits about the 1% of the population that does shit to cars. they say the laws are to protect lives, but its more about making money. if they want to save lives, they need to make hwy132 bigger, as more people die on that road than have died in all of streetracing since F&F came out.

i found a solution. get a car that isnt associated with illegal tuner modifications. yup, im getting a mustang. ever see a stang on the side of the road with the hood popped and the cop going through it?

another solution is to move(vegas sounds nice, i hear nevada doesnt give 2 shits about smog)

another solution is to get a older car and cram the biggest big block you can find and laugh at people when the terms "smog" and "carb legal" come up in a conversation.

though i will check this out, maybe give my 2 cents worth.

IMO the only way we will start to see change is if we had someone on our side with the power, money, determination and brains to overthrow these rules. even ahnuld tried to lessen restrictions but was shut down by his "peers".

so what happens if you want to register, oh, say, a 56 tbird? how bout a 55 ford pickup? chevelle? 69 boss stang? buick 442?

sing it and pass it on... we shall put a stop to this.

http://www.petitiononline.com/AH4G63/petition.html

talked to the petition writer and he said he has a couple media sources interviewing him. Also he knows a few people from the major performance magazines and such. Once we get lots of signatures then we will pass it to the right people and things will get done

This has lots to do with many other states as well. If we show them that we are not putting up with this crap then they will think twice about making this spread to places where its not like this yet.

Consumers Bill of Rights

Your Rights to Personalize Your Vehicle

ARTICLE ONE: You have the Right to buy high-quality, reliable aftermarket performance and specialty parts, accessories and styling options.

ARTICLE TWO: You have the Right to use high-quality aftermarket parts and know that your new car warranty claims will be honored. In fact, your vehicle dealer may not reject a warranty claim simply because an aftermarket product is present. A warranty denial under such circumstances may be proper only if an aftermarket part caused the failure being claimed.

ARTICLE THREE: You have the Right to install and use emissions-legal aftermarket performance parts without incurring hassles and onerous procedures during state vehicle emissions inspections.

ARTICLE FOUR: You have the Right to actively oppose any proposed (or existing) laws or regulations that will reduce your freedom to use aftermarket automotive parts and service or will curtail your ability to take part in the automotive hobbies of your choice.

ARTICLE FIVE: You have the Right to patronize independent retail stores and shops for vehicle parts and service. The U.S. aftermarket offers the world's finest selection of performance and specialty parts, accessories and styling options. These aftermarket products satisfy the most discriminating customers seeking personalized vehicles for today's lifestyle.

The foregoing message is brought to you by the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA). If you would like our guidelines on what to do if your new car warranty is denied, call SEMA's Fax-on- Demand service, 909/396-0182, ext. 750 and request document #904 or check the Warranty Denied? section of our web site.

Also goto this link to get more information if your warranty is denied. No need to ask here, when you can search and read it here. http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=8124

here is the search page on warranty issues. http://www.enjoythedrive.com/search/default.asp

Remember SEMA is a group who fights for our rights to modify our cars without penalty. to visit the site itself and look around goto www.sema.org or www.enjoythedrive.com

What 16 year old ricer wrote this?

Sorry but a company has the RIGHT to refuse service to a modified product. The government has nothing to do with it. There are too many issues with the quality of installation instead of the quality of the product going into the car. Of course the quality of the product as far as reliability on the car can easily be debatable too. Why should a manufacturer service a performance part that increases the chance they'll have to perform service on it?

Modify your vehicle at your own risk and don't try to lay someone (yours, friends, aftermarket manufacturer, body shop, etc) else's screw up on the car manufacturer.

I thought SEMA got involved and they were able to revamp the exhaust law a little.

I am trying to do the same thing here. I have been ticketed several times for a loud exhaust, yet there is technicly no precise statute for it!

I have been in contact with several assemblymen, but the one person who apparently is putting the bill through won't talk to me!

Good luck out there. The shit you people put up with out there is ludicrous!

*Edit* I didn't spell it that way either! Aw, where did shits' post go? :D

As a matter of policy, the California legislature ignores online petitions. :toobad:

I don't live in Ca. but know that whatever happens there will work its way across the country someday. I read the petition just to see how it went about. No wonder they ignore it, look at some of the names and comments made on it. Glad some people take it seriously. :toobad:
