I bought a 95-99 non-turbo 2.0 motor from the salvage yard to replace my blown motor. After swapping out the crank pulleys I noticed that the motor will only spin about a quarter of a turn. Specifically, the 2.0 label on the exhaust cam will face straight down, and the 2.0 label on the intake cam will face straight up, after rotating it counterclockwise, it will stop at the point where the labels meet with each other (1/4 rotation of the cam gears). I put roughly around 60 ft pounds of torque on it and it won't move. Any ideas, the motor is still under warranty, just want to make sure it's good or bad b4 I put it in. Btw, I took the spark plugs out while doing this.

? if the motor doesnt turn with the plugs out, something is wrong

u turned it counterclockwise?why?

do the timing marks line up? is there a timing belt on the motor(had to ask)no offence intended

its a 95-99 2.0 nt to go into your 1gnt?? that wont work

The motor is going in a 98 Gs, not the car in my sig. Timing Belt is on, everything looks assembled correctly, i.e: tensioner assembly, etc. It will actually turn both ways (clockwise and counter) until that certain point, then it won't move. I was planning to put it on top dead center, to make a mark on the crank pulley, but it won't rotate to that point.

take it back! show them that the motor wont turn, dont do anything else to it,take it back!

sounds like a bearing went out or a piston is hitting a valve
take it back
take it back

That's what I was thinking, just wanted a second opinion. I call them up on Monday morning. Thanks
