medicine hat,
i've got an issue with my high beams on my car. they dont work at all...i need to know where the drl control unit (module) and the high beam relay are located....i know where the "headlight" relay is....just not the "Highbeam" relay. This problem seams fairly complex so i've got a mechanic looking at it, he cant find the drl control unit either.

On another note.... My switch inside the car for the headlights seams to be working fine....i pull back for highbeams and the little blue indicator comes on...but the bulbs dont change from running lights to high beams.

(just in case someone else searches and has the same problem heres the fix.)

i found this info on http://www.ca.dsm.org/

You can simply pick up a standard 30A automotive relay at your local hardware store and use it in place of the rotten or worn out stocker.

First, find the stock unit that is tucked underneath your front driverside fender. (In front of the tire). There will be a small metal box bolted down with two 10mm bolts. Above that is the relay.

Simply rip that out and disassemble the connector. I clipped the wires going in and made note of where each one went.

I then took 4 clamp on connectors... the ones that slide over the relay terminals. I then clamped the stripped leads to the connector, and then assembled that to the relay. (after 20 minutes with a multimeter deciding how to configure the relay).

Be sure to solder the connections and use some shrink wrap and electrical tape to keep everything protected. Use some tie straps and strap that puppy in so it is secure. Woala, high beams once again!

Keep in mind that this is a canadian model equiped with day time running lights.

Here is a list of the wiring:
Original - Relay - Color
1 - 87 - Red & Blue
2 - 86 - Red - Switching means
3 - 85 - Red & White
4 - 30 - Red & White

30 and 85 seem to be swappable, why I'm not sure. I'm not 100% sure why this setup works, although I did while I hooked it up. The high beams are switched on ground, and NOT on power like most automotive circuits, so that complicates things.

I've yet to blow a fuse, so all looks good so far. If anyone can add any further information, please feel free.

Here is a quick diagram I whipped up as a visual aid.
