Ok, I need some help here... my homie just got a 92 Talon 4g63T AWD, but the motor is seized. So, he's in the market for a new motor and basically is wondering if he can get the 4g63 non turbo engine and swap the turbo over.

Now aside from obvious compression differences between the turbo and non-turbo motors, what else? He can get the non-turbo motor for a good price so will it be worth it?

If somebody could just list the differences between the two engines besides compression, that'd be great.

Thanks,
-Eric

Don't waste your time with a non-turbo block. Turbo blocks have oil squirters that squirt the bottom of the pistons to keep them cool. Non-turbo blocks don't have the squirters. Just rebuild the one thats in the car, unless its completely fugged up. Just my suggestion, take it however you chose.

So are the oil squirters the only difference? I've installed some in a honda block before so if that and compression is the only difference I think I'll get the cheaper block and do a little work to it.

What about the rods though? Stronger or the same? We'll probably just transfer the ones from the 4g63t, and possibly shotpeen them while they are out.

And is there any difference in the head? Different cams, different size combustion chamber, etc...

Thanks for your replies...

Oil squirters aren't really necessary. If you want to run like a stock Turbo Talon, you need to change the pistons and the N/T ones have a higher ring shelf I believe, which makes it more prone to detonation with the higher comp ratio. But if you run a safe boost of 7psi on a small turbo, you should be fine.

Ask him if it's a 6-bolt crank or 7-bolt crank. The 6 bolt crank's rods can hold a ton more boost then the 7-bolt one. 6bolt (90-4/92), 7bolt (5/92-99)

I thought I had all this stuff figured out, but you guys just confused me.
I was under the impression that the non-turbo dsm's came with the crystler motor (420A?). And that was it. I know i am missing something here, there is also a 4g63 no turbo motor.

Sorry for the dumb question.
