I finally got my Dejon Tool intake and full intercooler piping with the flange setup for a 1g Blow of Valve....so i rolled up my sleaves and went to town today and after a couple hours, finally got everything installed! Looks good...but I double and then tripple checked all the couplers...then I fired up the car and listened for leaks, occaisonally throttling her up a bit. So I took her out for a test drive after determining that there were no leaks....I got on it after a bit and all of the sudden noticed how ungodly loud the BOV sound was...I know there's supposed to be some difference between the sound levels of a 2nd gen and a 1st gen BOV but this was LOUD...and it had an almost machine gun sound to it...like it was leaking pressure. Is this normal? Should it be this loud or do i most likely have a leak? I looked all around (but not really too hard to be honest) but I never found any reference to a BOV gasket for the 1st gen...should I have used a gasket? ANOTHER ISSUE is this BOV has had the "Gus" or "Dodgegarage" mod seen here: http://www.thedodgegarage.com/turbo_bov_mod.html ....i left the lower nipple venting to atmosphere...could this be the culprit? I cannot find any leaks anywhere else and the only thing i did "iffy" was slapping the blow off valve on without any sealer or gasket...i knew that would be the weak point of the install if there was going to be one...but i do have concerns with this "gus" mod because I didnt perform it...i bought it off ebay and it showed up like this....could this gus mod be causing the loudness or is it a lack of sealant or do i just have a bunk blow off valve or all of the above? Just trying to figure out where to go from here and i appreciate anyone's input on the matter.

You answered your own question, how do you expect two metal surfaces to seal by themselves.

You also can't find leaks without performing a leak test. There are no pressure air to leak at idle, even if you can build 5psi free- revving it would be too loud to hear anything. I suggest putting a gasket on the bov, warm up the car and re-tighten all clamps and bolts then perform a leak test and you should be fine.

Thanks oldman...i just needed a little reassurance......where can a guy locate the gasket i need? I have been trying online, here, with no results.

If I can get my hands on that gasket, i'll get everything rigged up...let her warm up and them retighten, just like you said...think that will probably get her done...so to speak...LOL

That site has everything a guy could need for his ride! Thanks for the hook up on that one!

As for the boost leak test...sorry I sounded as if I disregarded it...that is absolutely NOT the case....in fact, I consider it so important that I am having my local mitsubishi master tech perform the boost leak test along with the water pump/timing belt swap and the assorted other maitenence...I take certain things very seriously. When it comes to turbos...well I can swap turbos and such any day of the week in a matter of hours and have fun doing it...but ANY time I wrench, or perform any serious swap...I have a certified tech inspect and confirm the completion of the work.

BTW...I'm not one to ussually represent for a dealership, but if you live in the Minneapolis, MN area, you just can't go wrong calling up Wayzata Mitsubishi. The service is great (I hadn't had to call them in over 2 and a half years and the guy on the phone remembered my name just by mentioning my one car that I had in there 3 times) and the master tech they have spinnin wrenches there is by far one of the brightest monkey wrenchers I ever met. And he's good with modded issues too...in any case...thanks for your help, oldman!

Yes, the 1g BOV is pretty loud. I find it slightly amusing how you get the complicated FMIC kit installed, but skimp on the BOV gasket. You can make your own gasket with gasket material if you dont have one handy. Your BOV is not bunk, use the lower nipple tho, its supposed to be helpful according to the link you posted. It almost gives you a reason to NEVER get rid of the 1g bov :D

Lol...trust me...I found it amusing too...but to be comepletely honest...it was getting dark, garage was full...day was over and I was tired...after checking everything a billion times, I figured that if I noticed anything funky, it would be short work determining the issue at that point. I allready ordered and am waiting for the actual gasket, thanks to oldman...in the mean time, I'm going to get some quality time in with the fuel pump, a rewire, some new spark plugs and magnecor wires...when the gasket shows up, so much the better...I'm also running that second nipple to the compresser housing outlet nipple...i didn't think the mod itself was bunk...when I get everything tightened up and get this sucka in for the other maitenence, I'll crank the boost up for a couple of short runs and let you all know how everything works. THANKS FOR THE HELP EVERYONE!
