I just rebuilt my motor (bored 20 over, new pistons, rings , bearings, etc.) and Ive been doing a very easy breakin on it, but every once and a while i'll boost it very lightly. It has 300 miles on it so far. I did a compression check on it and it has 155, 155, 155, 155. Is the engine breakin done since the rings have set and Ive got great compression across the board??? Im dieing to see what it can do at WOT!!! ;)

Kyle,

Have you been changing the oil? some times it tends to leave some metal shavings in there. Because if the rings setting to the cyc wall.

Have you changed out the breakin oil yet?

Edit: Doh!
Well... since he beat me to it. :p
Change that oil and hopefully there will be minimal shavings in there.
Let it run for about 200-300 more miles after that change then start light boosting...

Back to the origanal subject******

If I have perfect compression and my car now has 440 miles on the rebuild is it fully broken in? Also should I gradually boost to my goal of 15 psi. For example..... 10psi day 1...11psiday 2... 12psi day 3... 14psi day 4.... and 15psi day 5..... or does it not matter if the engine is already broken in?

i believe its really a matter of your choice,... if you want an engine to run for a short time, put it on 30 psi the first day, if you want it to last as long as possible, never boost it, never go over like 4k rpms, and drive around slowly,....you have to deside what you think is reasonable really, cuz it comes down to how long your willing to wait, and what you think will work... some people break it in for like 3k miles, its your choice (i would go with something along the lines of nothing over 4k rpms for like 500 miles, then start working your way up, boosting and increasing throttle possition and rpm ( but then again tahts me, and i havent ever broken in an engine, im just going by whats good for an engine...if you never redline it and never boost it, and never go wot it will last longer,...you just have to moderate the amount of abuse you give it..) some of that probably didnt make sence but whatever, im no expert, dont follow me like im jesus....

Always treat your motor like it's new, and it'll stay that way a lot longer.

Beat the crap out of it, and kill it in 750 miles.

Or, do what most of the world does with motors they never have to think about: turn up the stereo and just drive.
