what is bench racing

What is bench racing? I noticed its against the forum rules but i have no clue what it is. What is it?

Bench racing is the official hobby of many a member here. It's where people argue and debate over what can and can't be done based solely on what they've heard or something some friend of theirs has done. As opposed to posting statements based on facts.

Example:
"Sell it and buy a turbo. 420As are not capable of being fast."
"Bullshit! I know a guy who makes 400whp with his HRC kit."

Example: (non-bench racing)
"Sell it and buy a turbo. 420As are not capable of being fast."
"Bullshit! I make 400whp with my HRC kit and here are links to both my dyno graph and a video of my 12 second run at the track last summer."

Bench racing is ### and should be avoided at all costs. It makes us all look like idiots.

No "bench racing". Bench racing is defined as posting hypothetical questions to try and see how fast or how powerful your car is, or will be. If you want to know what time to expect at the track, whether or not your car can beat another specified car, or how much power it will have with a particular modification (or mod list), then go to the track or the dyno and find out for sure. Do not ask for people to guess in our forums. It's pointless and it wastes space. Serious enthusiasts go out and do it, they don't talk about doing it. If you're not serious about performance, find another online community to be a part of.

bench racing is pretty much asking if you can beat a car.

ie

"can i beat a ls1 camaro with a boost controller, agp rs49, and 340cc injectors?"
