Rear Diff Lsd Units For 2g Awd?

I was unfortunate enough to purchase an AWD 98 GSX that doesn't have the factory LSD.

I want to install an LSD. What are my options?

Is the 1G and 2G rear LSD compatible? Can I stick a factory LSD into this open rear diff?

I have found a Kaaz Rear LSD but its nearly $800 so that is not an option. If it were $500 I would give it some thought.

Kaaz aren't terribly street friendly anyways. Quaife is a little "nicer" for street driving, but the price is even higher (I seem to remember $1000+).

Just look for a wrecked 2g in the local junkyards?

I didn't think Quaife made a rear diff for our cars.
 
Well I found out a few things...first the 1G and 2G LSD is not compatible.
Second the 2G LSD rear axles are different than 2G non-LSD axles.

So far I know of only two options. Complete rear end swap to stock LSD or a KAAZ.

Anyone else have more info?
 
not sure if you have already done anything yet, however if you do a search for viscous rear you will find that all 98 gsx's had lsd rear diff. They are a visous diff. Also with the kaaz if you have the factory rear lsd you will need new inner joints from a non-lsd.

Perhaps it's not important for drag racing, but not everyone here is a drag racer :)

For autox, I've found the stock rear LSD to be sufficient, but the car really needs one on the front as well.

For rally, the lack of front LSD is a significant handicap, and the rear LSD is not as good as I'd like it to be.
