Does anybody have a number i can call to see if my cars had the recall done?thanks.

Yup....As Blixx said.

Find your local Mitsu dealer and either stop by with your VIN number....or Call the dealer with the VIN. Talk to service dept. and say you want to check for any open recalls.

Here you will find phone numbers need to get the transfer case recall performed and some other usefull info.

May want to make this a sticky.

This is taken directly from 1000 already answered questions website for. So they get all the credit. I am just posting it to save some search time for those in desperate need.
Here is a link to their site if you need anymore info:

There is nothing wrong with the transfer case - there *is* something wrong with the brass plug in the center of the transfer case yoke._ This plug can leak._ If enough lubricant is lost out of the transfer case, it will wear out and lock up._ Leakage may cause premature wear on the transfer case even if it does not seize up._
There is a safety recall on this problem for all model year AWD DSMs from both Mitsu and Chryco, up to and including mid-1998 models._ The wording of the recall is such that:
the dealership will inspect the transfer case yoke to determine if there is a leak or not.
upon evidence of a leak, the dealer will replace the yoke and yoke seal at no charge.
if, in the dealer's opinion, the transfer case has undue wear on it, it will also be replaced at no charge.
Because of the wording of the recall, transfer cases are not automatically replaced._ All the crying and b!tching in the world won't change that._ However, the transfer case and yoke are warrantied for the life of the car. This is because the recall is a safety recall._ Future leaks will be covered under the terms of the recall notice._ These terms are not within the discretion of either the dealer or the manufacturer - thus spake the NHTSA, and so mote it be._ Do not be afraid to stand up for your rights on this crucial point.
Many DSMers have been happy with the recall work._ However, there have been several reports of owners who have not received satisfactory service from the dealerships performing the recall._ The causes include:
no parts available._ At one time or other, all the involved parts were reported as backordered.
dealerships not recognizing the transfer case leak for what it is; it is sometimes misdiagnosed as engine oil or universal-joint oil.
a DIY repair of the transfer case yoke, which fools the dealer into believing the yoke is not leaking.
dealerships not believing that the transfer case has experienced undue wear as a result of the leak.
Owners who do not get decent service should do the following:
phone the Mitsu/Chryco and NHTSA telephone numbers, listed on your recall notice, to report the difficulty.
Have them intervene on your behalf with the dealer._ Dealers and Mitsu/Chryco do not have the power to deny you in this matter._ Remember that the NHTSA does not have to guarantee you a replacement t-case!

The phone number for Mitsubishi is 1-800-222-0037, for Chrysler it is 1-800-521-2777 (or perhaps 1-800-992-1997). _ Canadians phone Chrysler Canada at 1-800-465-2001. The NHTSA is at 1-888-327-4236.

yello,

i was having problems shifting a while ago so i jus changed the oil in the transmission to see if it would help out at all...(previous owner put ford oil in it, its now synchromesh) while i was in there i decided to port my turbo and new o2 (2g) and 2g exhaust mani, but thats besides the point, while i was messin with the exhaust i noticed that the transfer case had oil on it in the exact same spot as where described where it shouldnt be (aka leakin!) im curious as to if this could also make shifting harder? it doesnt wanna go into gear. so i figured clutch plate or something about like that....

its an eagle talon 93 so who do i call for a xfer case recall? mitsu? or who?

while their down there anyone know the price they ask for droppin in a new plate and what not that i think ima need in the transmission??

thanks

Is this for 1 gen or second gen?

The Chrysler Dealership where i live said that they won't fix it until it completly drops or cracks from usage. However there was this mechanic who said if I pull the plug and drain the transfer case then start driving it will eventually break. You now have a new transfer case

This is for the AWD DSM's not the FWD. Transfer casees are located on the all wheel drive DSM's only if that answers your question. You have a GS so you would not need to worry about this since you have a FWD.:)

haha thats great...eventually break? #@%#@%#@%#@% thats nice, youve been told to drive around until your rear wheels lock up basically? i guess ill call the local chrysler dealwhore and see what bs they feed me

thanks

Yes you can. It is a lifetime recall. We just took a friend of mines 92TSI in and had the recall done. That was the 3rd time since 94 that it has been done and the car has been through many different owners. Don't let them tell you that because you are owner #whatever, that you can't get the recall done. Use those numbers I posted at the bottom and b!tch. They will call the dealer that you have your car at and they will suck up the charges.

Does the recall cover Galant VR4's which use the same transfer case? I've never seen anywhere if it specifically is covered as technically it's not created by Diamond Star Motors.

I am not too sure on that. Call the mitsubishi number that is provided and talk to someone up there that can let you know if it is covered.

I had the recall done on my car about 2 months ago. They replaced the whole transfercase for free. $1600 and some change. If you have any questions about the recall just ask. We have all the paper work including the actually message the dealers recieved about it.

Ok, let me get this straight. The t-case recall has been performed already by the previous owner. I have some fluid leaking from my t-case (I think). I can take it to the dealership and have them fix it if it is the t-case? What if they try and tell me it's not the t-case leaking? Could it be something else? Thanks for the info and heads up too.

Exactly, Chrysler records show the Transfer Case Recall has been done on my car, however I lifted it up after I bought it and there was grease buildup around the transfer case, so I wiped it off. It is back, so my Transfer Case is still leaking. Can I go and get it replaced or fixed for free again?

when i had my transfer case done at 115,000 miles for the recall remind them to also do the recalls for the lower contol arm ball joints(something about them falling offdue to wear), and the gas tank seals(incorrectly installed and may leak from factory). all were repalaced for free.

It doesn't matter if the recalls has already been done. Its pretty much forever. Its a safety recall so the dealership has to warranty it for life. If your transfercase is leaking TAKE IT IN! Mine just about locked up on me while I was doing 65-70 down the highway, luckly it made a loud bang and whined really bad. We thought it was a broken center dif at first but when we pulled the t-case it was really hard to get off, because the shafts wouldn't turn. Anyway the point is don't risk it, take it in its free. I got a brand new T-case=$1600 and some change plus they installed it all for FREE! IT doesn't cost you a dime so get it done.

ps: I stress its free and to get it done cause I know most of us are poor and its a safety thing. Trust me its scary as $hit when they lock up.

This was my reason for posting the transfer case recall info and numbers to call. Most dealers will tell you that it has been done once and they don't have to do it again. So thats why you call the numbers provided above, then they will ask where your car is at and a contact phone number for the dealership where your car is. At that point, the dealership will have to perform the recall. The recall is a lifetime recall no matter how many times it has been done. The dealers don't want to have to eat the charges or do the maintenance so thats why they tell you it has been done before and they aren't required to do it again. Use those numbers posted above and get teh recall fixed again and again and again if needed.

Listen I went though it all last april.

They told me that the inspection was done on xx/xx/97 or what ever when the recall was called. It passed so they didnt fix it. So I filed with NHTSA and all that jazz. It did nothing. I called Mitsu and I hate them now. They were no help.

So I fiugred why not look like an ass and just reem some people at the dealership. So I did, I told them I filed with NHTSA and that had alittle pull to it but not enough. I told them I was going to sue their little service pants off of them when it locks up on me and I barrell into a car at 70mph. Then told them Im going to throw my transcase though the front window of their showroom when it locks up. And then after some good hard #@%#@%#@%#@%#@%in and ripping new ass holes I got it! Free parts and labor.

It was the biggest headache ever and I havent gone back there yet. LOL

I thought for sure my brakelines where going to be cut!

Will they fix it more than once if its a lifetime recall? I guess so since I just read it, but if it locks up after they service it, what will happen? Not that you guys would know, dealerships suck

If it locks up after they service it, they would have to replace the t-case I would guess. It depends on how long after they service it. If they service it and then 2 yrs down the line it has been leaking and you don't get it serviced again then it locks up, that would be your fault. Just keep a eye out for it leaking every couple weeks.
