ok here is what i am debating on .

just bought a HKS SSQV BOV, also bought the recirculation kit that came with it. Hooked the recirculation kit up first with the BOV . Ran ok. Then i got curious of how it would sound and run vented to the atmoshere. Ran the the same. no difference in idle.

IM SO CONFUSED.

I HAVE READ SO MUCH ABOUT HOW 2G DSM RUN SHITTY WHEN NOT RECIRCULATED WHAT IS YOU ALL OPINION. I AM RUNNING STOCK EVERYTHING.

TELL ME WHAT I AM DOING WRONG. RIGHT, AND PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME A LINK ON A INSTALL PLEASE DO CAUSE I LIKE TO SEE IF I HOOKED EVERYTHING UP RIGHT.

INSTRUCTIONS WERE SHITTY.

THKS ....TYLER

It will prevent the car from running rich whenever you blow off.

This has been hashed over hundreds of times, I do not think another time is needed.

Sorry man but it does make your car run rich, even if you cant tell, that baby is super rich during shifts. The air goes out of the BOV during the shift, but the fuel for that air is still headed for the combustion chamber, so it screws the A/F ratio up. If you really like the sound, do a blow thru setup (GM MAF and translator). Thats the bottom line brother.

I know you're semi-new here but this is probably the most frequently asked question so just tryin to help u out before others flame you. Because there are almost 40,000 members here, of course if everybody asks the same questions, the boards will be filled with the same questions answered over and over. This is one of those questions, so just search before you ask a question.

Not to sound rude at all, but think about it this way - would you rather take the 5 minutes to search and find an answer almost instantly (maybe with a little searching) or take the time to write out a post and then wait 24 hours for an answer. Shit, I know I'd wanna get my problem fixed right away :p. We are so lucky to have a huge forum like this, where almost every issue has been covered. I know looking on honda boards for some problems with my moms accord I can never find the answers, but looking for problems for a DSM on here is no problem. Well good luck!

i dont really understand why i am being chewed out here .... if you all read my post it is asking other questions that i have searched for and have yet to find an answer for .....suck as

a link to HKS SSQV install with pics.

and i am trying to start a debate about recirculated vrs non.

I just wanted to see if it actually harms the car or not also

dont mean to start crap or anything

We're not flaming you, were just saying that we have a vast archive of information stored on these forums for you to use as you see fit.

Exaxctly here is quick excerpt for our own tuning guide.

2. Loud BOVs (the pssshhhhh sound between shifts)
The second most common question is, "how do I make my BOV louder?". Most of us DSMers will cringe when we hear this question. The fact is, a louder BOV on these cars will conflict with vehicle performance. In order to make a BOV loud, you have to vent to the atmosphere (as opposed to back into the intake, like our cars do from the factory), releasing the excess air instead of routing it back into your turbo system. The problem with this, is that your ECU has already accounted for this "excess air" and adjusts fuel curves accordingly. If it's not in the system anymore, the ECU is compensating incorrectly. This means that the car will not run the way it's supposed to. It may idle poorly, or it may not be noticable - but it will have a negative effect, even if you can't feel it (the logger will prove it). In any event, it is not the best thing to do if you are serious about making maximum performance. And if you are more interested in making your car sound "furious" and not making it "fast", expect a good deal of heckling, as this is a performance community.

My bad for comin off a little harsh

About your specific problem, it's installed correctly. Again not to bring it up but a search would have saved you all the worry :p, it's a weird thing. Some cars do seem to bog and all during shifts, and some run fine! Guess you got lucky, but you still are running rich every single time it blows off. The way to fix that would be a GM MAF blow thru setup, which reads the air AFTER the BOV, not before it. Makes more sense IMO, it should come like that stock. Oh well :thumb:

Starting a debate, honestly there is nothing to debate, look at the facts:

-Air goes in, is read by the MAS (or w/e you want to call it - THE AIRFLOW SENSOR :p haha)

-Some of that air exits the intake "tract" when the BOV vents.

-The ECU still thinks that air (thats now in the atmosphere) is still in the intake tract, so it adds the correct amount of fuel for the amount of air that was read originally by the MAS.

-Since that air that is in the atmosphere isn't there to mix with the fuel, you have a rich condition.

Some cars show a rich condition (bogging, crappy idle, etc) and some don't.

The only harm that a rich condition would do is "rot" your cat out eventually, bad gas mileage, and worse performance. But the only long term damage would be the cat, but they wear out anyway so don't worry about it if the sound makes you happy I guess  just remember it's hurting performance...

There is no "you got lucky". An aftermarket BOV won't leak at idle so it wont bog at idle. The car will run rich NO MATTER WHAT inbetween shifts. Watch your gas mileage lower and for gods sake, search. This horse has been beated to a pulp.

hey guys ..thks for all the info !! really helps ..... can anyone give me a quick ink to wear i can find the GM MAF and translator for cheap...
