2.3 stroker setup..what do you guys think...

Ok around early next yearIm going to be investing in a 2.3 built stroker motor with 1g ported head. putting power to the ground with a shep tranny, lsd and so on. What Im asking is not to get flammed for what I choose as Im not trying to make goobs of power, just trying to setup a VERY VERY solid dsm drivtrain. The prurpose is autox/cruising not drag.

other then what I have I will be adding a greddy fmic, more fuel(680cc and my 190 or 550cc and 255walbro), safc, my atr 3in cat back, 2.5" into 3" downpipe, tubular manifold and o2 housing, magnus manifold, act 2600(to replace my 2100), 264/272 cams.

Heres the part youll flame me at...it will be on a ported a clipped 10 degree b16g(will replace with similar evob16g later) with a 34mm flapper at 18psi street and 20-22psi track. And a decent suspension/tire setup will be on the car. I know it may be a waste to do all that just t put a b16g on but thats my turbo of choice(decent top end and very fast spool). Plus if I ever do decide to go bigger all I have to do is buy into the 50 trim faze thats going around... So what do you guys think?

Even if you do upgrade to a 50 trim that would still be to small of a turbo for that engine. If I were you I would stick with a 2.0L.

ya i have a gt 3255 now witch is a 50 trim pretty much just with a gt wheel, and im going to a 2.3 stocker from ffwd, and there stage III.5 head. but im also going to a gt 35r turbo at the same time. with a 50 trim stock woth the 2.0. there is no need to stroke a 50 trim.

couple of notes here.

#1 don't clip the turbo. Clipping is a dinosaur left over from the old days of not having options with the "hot" side of the turbo. Now if you want a different characteristic you can just go with a different housing or turbine wheel. (also you don't need it on a 16g)

#2 to be honest for the ammount of power you are making the 2.0 will be a more reliable engine. The stroker adds additional stress to the rods because of the lower rod:stroke ratio. It isn't big but unless you really need to there is no reason to stroke it. (the 2.0 without cams will give you the power down low and still make plenty up top without the lopy idle).

#3 22 psi on a 2.3 liter will be well out of the efficiency range of a 16g. You may want to consider a 2.0 or a larger turbo. I would stick with the 2.0 myself.

I know bhut what I am doing is replacing a tired old 2.0 with a new rebuilt motor with stronger forged internals, so that I will have a very very strong motor and trans and if I wanna go big I can. I mean why buy a new 2.0 when I can get a 2.3.....like when your turbo blows why replace it with a t25....if you know what I mean.
