Hi guys, my car is an all-stock RS, but I'm going to start doing some mods to it. Right now I just use regular unleaded gas, but when should I start going up in the octane? After intake/exhaust, or beyond that? I don't want to screw up my engine ;) but I don't want to have to shell out more cash on fuel than I do now. I know, I'm a cheap bastage. :)

High octane gas doesn't make power. It allows a high boost/high compression engine to function properly without detonation. You don't need anything more than 87 on an NT unless you are spraying, or have a set of high compression pistons in the car.

:thumb: You got it... I've always used mid-grade in my N/A cars... But I live in a hot climate and I don't really like detonation, and the cars just run better on mid-grade.

L8R! :dsm:

I have always run premium in all my cars at least 1 tank out of 5.. In my GSX, in my Iroc and of coarse in my 69 I never ran anything but the good stuff... Now that I will be getting it free I will only run the good stuff in anything I drive. :thumb:

i was wondering what everyone uses, what should i use , the premium fuel or the regular unleaded, will one hurt my car??? i have a 97 eclipse rs

For your car it doesnt really matter, but if u want a little more performance run the permium, the turbo guys HAVE to run the premium.

I run unleaded in my car, but every now and then I put high-test in it to clean off the rings and stuff. It helps. My old chevy spectrum, best thing on that car was the cheap gas. I have never put over $7.63.. NEVER! I drove to my granny's in MT. Juliet and back home (putnam county) and it hardly used any gas. Went back out that same down across town and all made like 4 trips and it was still close to full. My mom gets paranoid okay....stop in and it stopped at $3.60......damn that car. Now my new car, it takes $10 to keep it over the half, so I say $15 fills it up....but so far I havent put over $10 but I know it will take more.

You're from TN...

And why have I not met you?

I dunno....I'm not far from murfessboro when I visit my granny. My ex b/f has a friend that has an apartment there. I live I think 2hours from M'boro.

I usually use premium because the octanes that we have up here are 87, 89, and 93. And it all expensive. Average price here in WV is about $1.42 a gallon. I have to buy gas for my car every week. So i figure im spending about $30-40 a week for gas. My car is really really bad on gas... maybe because im heavy footed. I really need a job.

To the people running higher octane fuels and adding octane booster to your fuel in an attempt to gain power, heres a secret :shhh: : Octane is a measurement of how easy or hard the fuel is to ignite using pressure alone. The higher octane your fuel is, the less likely it is to pre-ignite due to overcompression (spark knock). Thats why lower octane fuel is better fuel where diesel is concerned, because it ignites without needing a spark. A fuel's power is measured in BTUs (something Thermal Units). My advice is to use the cheapest gas you can that won't make your car spark knock. When it comes to DSMs, Non turbo 2.0 DOHC engines require just as much or more octane rating in their fuel, due to their higher compression ratios than the 2.0 turbos.

Just about everything Ive said is contrary to popular belief, so spare the flames 'cause I already know most of you think Im wrong. ;)

Yeah, we what in the heck do you know. You dont even own a DSM, you simply own a motor. Get a car, then come back here when you have some more clout :)

Just kidding....by the way, this is Nathan

i use the highest octane we have here 83 it seems to give me better gas milage and my car runs better, it is only 20 more cent per gallon so i use that.
