i got a 97 gst and i was just wondering what the stock psi was. Also i put in a 20g turbo, whts the most hp my transmission/flywheel can handle. I got 122,000 miles on the car
thanks :dsm:

Stock boost is usually around 12psi, as for how much power I am not to sure, the it can take a fair amount of abuse.

So let me get this stright.....you don't know what stock boost pressure is but you put in a 20g? Either this is a joke or I pray for your offspring.

I have a 1Gb that had an OEM stock replacement when I purchased the vehicle. Two months later, I installed a K&N, UIC, TurboXS BOV and TurboXS HPBC and boosted 14psi. Two days later, clutch went bye-bye. I don't know about 2G's, but I think you will have some problems with a 20G and higher boosts.

The upgrade paths list the clutch as one of the last things to do, but it ended up being moved higher on my list when it went because of the boost. It cracked in four places. It wasn't pretty.

My two cents.

I severly doubt it was the added power that did in your clutch. It was driving habits plain and simple, either yours or the former owner that did that clutch in. I was running mid 8's in the 1/8 with exhaust and the stock clutch.

hey thanks for the info, every shop i've been to gave me a different stock psi so now at least im sure. thanks

Syndicate,

That's interesting. Perhaps it was just too coincidental that I added these performance parts and the clutch went. I'm very easy on my clutch, but perhaps the previous owner was hard on it (but he only had the stock clutch replaced the week before). OMG

Anyway, it was a good thing it happened, because I am happy with my ACT 2100 and XACT lightened flywheel.
