18's on 1g w/ stock suspension?

Basically I'm wondering if I put 18" x 7.5" w/ +45 mm offset wheel wrapped in 235/40/18 tire will be okay to put on my 1g with all stock suspension. I'm going to do my suspension eventually but I just got the chance to buy some 18" Tantrums for a really good price. It seems like there's not too many people on here that I've seen with 18s that have stock suspension... let me know if you think it'll work alright... I'd like to know before I buy them.

That link refers to 2G's only and doesn't say anything about running 18s with stock suspension. Anything else?

Actually that link relates to all dsm's. Don't click on the fitment guide link inside of it and read it and you will find that for 235's to fit against the stock suspension you need at most a 41mm offset. Other wise the tire will rub the suspension. As far as 18's go you'll have to keep the sidewall small to like a 40 series or so.

Yeah, a 235 is pretty wide for the 1g suspension. I'm running 225/50s on my 16s and I get pretty close to rubbing. I'd go with a 215/40 or a 225/35 in an 18". The 235/40 is probably going to be a bit too wide and also taller than you really need. I'd hate to see you put them on, turn your wheel and messup your fender. Oh yeah, welcome to the wide world of wheel gap.

you will probably find a lot more help in the suspension forum. There are a lot of guys who have done all sorts of fitting.

i would say that you would be fine on stock suspension b/c awd's tend to ride tractor trailor style.

if you do lower your car, you will either have to go with a narrower tire (like 225 or 215) unless you roll your wheel wells.

Be careful, even a 225 series will still stick out past your fender well if your offset isn't just right. Take a look in my gallery and you should be able to see what I mean. I have a set of 17s with 215 series rubber on them and they fit just inside.
