I dropped my car off at Mitsu. cuz I've been having probs and they told me that I needed new front rotors because they are too thin and that I need new front brakes. Soooooo.....I don't know how to check them or not but I was thinking and should I go for aftermarket rotors and brakes or just buy them from Mitsu. or what? Would there be any benefits from getting aftermarkets and would this be something I can do myself? Thanks for any help guys:thumb:

If you can get your hands on a set of GSX/tsiawd calipers go for it. That is what I would do if I had the time to find a set. But my 5 month old rusted original 46k (yeah, my 97 gst has 46k on the clock..haha) rotors are shot now and I have to get it fixed asap.

ALOT of guys are still using the stock gst brakes with upgraded rotors and pads. I personally know a guy putting 515whp with the OEM GS-T brakes/rotors.

Well I found this on DSMTrader.com. It would be good for you since you said this is what you are looking for I believe.

Is that a good deal? Are GSX brakes better or something? Or should I just spend less money and get something else....Mitsu. quoted me $179.26 for the brake job...and $237.02 to replace the front rotors. I would much rather do this myself. I'm not sure what a brake job includes....is it just putting new pads on?

What are your power goals?
How much money do you have to spend on brakes/big brake kit?
Read the post above yours or my last post.

Yes, the GSX calipers are better. They are dual piston instead of single piston (GS-T). The thing about it is that you can buy an aftermarket big brake kit for the same or less amount of money if you are thinking of that guys ad.

If you want some help finding a good priced Big Brake kit just give me a dollar amount and I will see what I can dig up.:thumb:

Well I'd really like to not spend to much money. As far as power goals, my car isn't even running good right now so I at least want stock power

Ok here is what you need to do:
go to www.roadraceengineering.com , then go to brakes, scroll almost all the way down. you will see the powerslot rotors and axxis metal masters pads. call RRE on the phone and order them. I would always go with slotted over drilled, because my friend has drilled brembo rotors on his s13 and they are already cracked at the holes. you cant go wrong with slotted! This is a very proven combo, many people on this site have them and love them. You can even put them on yourself. it isnt to hard. i did it last month and i love my setup!
good luck

So the Power Slot Slotted Rotors for front FWD '89-99 for $150 a pair and the Metal Master Semi-Metallic Brake Pads for $55. Correct?

yep, that is what i have! and they are great, no squeeling fast stops and very smooth. After you put them on though, make sure you read the break-in process in the instructions, because that will make a huge difference. I followed the brake in perfect and mine work great, because you have to temper the rotors slowly. Just read in the instructions, you will see.
here are mine:

dont pay attention to my rims, they are dirty as hell!

i was thinking about it! I think i might paint them black. something not bright or flashy, just to keep the look of the car "all-business" and classy:thumb:

Maybe red if i had 2 or 4 piston calipers, but the stock gst calipers would look really funny red. Most of the time it just looks half assed. So i dont know how long til i get a chance to do mine! cause i will take them off, sand them primer them and paint them very full and cleanly. I cant think of a time i would have time, to have that much down-time without a car. but i plan on it over the summer! thanks for the tip

well, i would go with the RRE ones. because drilled rotors have a tendancy to crack if pushed hard enough. and i have never heard of a slotted rotor cracking, at least not from normal abuse!:thumb: and i am not very sure about the pads in that auction, but many people will stand behind their AXXIS metalmasters. This is just a very proven setup, and you really cant argue with it for everyday street use!

I run Axxis Metalmasters on my 01 Maxima. They are good pads.

The trick to brakes and pads is to not PUNISH them. I know you will do it every once and awhile, but YES if you plan on pushing your car to the limits everytime you drive her then go for the slotted.

If you go the track on about every other weekend and average 3-5 runs. At the same time keeping your 'DAILY' driving at a speed limit pace then the pads/rotors I posted will work just fine.:thumb:

It is true that the 'most' drilled rotors will start to produce stress lines when they are beat on. But that is a choice you have on your vehicle. And by beat on I mean driving it like you stole it every were, all the time!!!

not entirely true, my friend drives his s13 everyday, and abuses it about 3 days a week, and he developed stress cracks in about 3 monthes. that being said, he was also running stock worn down pads.:thumbdown
oh well, and just for shits and giggles, i think powerslots look better anyway!:thumb: :shhh:

Well actually I don't really push my car hard at all, never been the track either but it also doesn't run very good. I can't find anyone to come help me out w/ it either  Nobody loves me!!

Pretty easy job to do. Also a good thing to 'cut your teeth on' in the dsm world. Just find someone that has a detailed description on how to do these and you will be fine.

If you wait a week I will try and do a writeup (not promising) on the whole spring, strut, rotor, and pad change in the 2G GS-T. If anything I will help explain it to you. I can not garentee a pic-by-pic display of how to do the change.

Yeah I'm sure it's not very hard to change out the rotors and pads and I don't mind learning about this at all, it's all good stuff to know and saves money. I just wish I could figure out whats wrong w/ my car and why it sux ass and probably gets beat by civics, LOL

That's it. The major advantage you have over someone else out in the world, is that you are not going at this DSM thing all alone. You have found a great place to get info. The trick now is to ask and research.;)

Well I've posted about it before and no one could really help. My boost gauge reads about 14 psi but it doesn't feel like it. When I do the leak test it holds to about 7psi and never goes higher and I can't find a leak anywhere. That is when I hook it straight up to the throttle body also. Hmm what else...oh yeah when my Profec B was hooked up my car would hesitate and almost die when i was stopped then all of a sudden it would take off real fast. Sometimes my idle drops real low and my car dies. I tried hooking up my Sony cd player and everytime I turn up the volume about halfway the thing shuts off and my lights dim like crazy w/ it barely even turned up (and all the connections are good in the wiring). My car is a pos :( I guess thats what I get for paying $6350 for a 96 turbo spyder...LOL
