Hey does anyone know where to find a shop that'll put on a 14b stock turbo for cheap?? I was quoted for 300 through the phone but I'm waiting to get my car to take it in to have it checked out. In the mean time though I'd like to find some shops before hand. So.. anyone know of any:confused:

It's so easy to swap in a turbo...
But if you really don't want to do it yourself I'd check some performance shops that know what they're doing when it comes to turbos.

It's an easy job, just find a decent shop that will do it. Maybe you could find another person with a DSM who might do it cheap.

How long does it take to do this... I kinda know my way around an engine with matainance stuff but maybe with a repair manual I might be able to do this myself, no?

You don't really need a repair manual.
Things you need to detach:
1) Manifold to Turbo Bolts.
2) Oil Lines (2)
3) Coolant Lines (2)
4) J Pipe
5) o2 Housing Bolts
6) Intake obviously...

Really you can do this in any order.

If you're going to reuse the antifreeze, drain the entire system because coolant will leak everywhere when taking off those coolant lines! And make sure you soak the bolts in PB Blaster the night before because they can be a PITA, especially the o2 housing ones. There should be no oil leaking out when you remove the lines because the car will obviously have to be cool so all the oil will go to the oil pan. Then change all of the gaskets and fittings if you want.

And when putting in the 14b make sure you do the coolant lines good and do not cross thread the bolt into the water pipe. Otherwise that's a major headache! It might be tricky to get in but you'll get it, just be careful. I just replaced my return line and you'll think it's taking forever to just get off that line. But really, it's coming off... be patient with it!

If you're going to own a dsm,
better start learning how to work on it asap,
unless you're rich of course,
but then you probably wouldn't be driving a dsm

Take a few days search through this site and Vfaq.com has a "16g install in 2g" which will be the same thing. Take your time and be patient and you should have no problem with the install.
Save your $300 and buy something else:thumb:

Is there gasket/fittings kit for this anywhere?? Thanks toofast for the vfaq link. I think I'll deffinately be doing this myself now!!

I'm was just thinking... Would it be easier to just rebuild my turbo

Do you want to go through the hassle of that? And I'd put in a 14b instead.

And I doubt there is a gasket kit.
Everything I would replace when changing the turbo:
Manifold to Turbo Bolts
Manifold/Turbo Gasket 6cm
o2 housing gasket
J pipe gasket

Depending on condition:
Coolant lines & Banjo Bolts
Oil lines
o2 bolts

Well the guy said it has a 14b on it already... Does it say 14b on the turbo any where to make sure that's what it is?

Yea. Use photobucket if you want. Use the HTML code.

I am not sure, but if it has a 14b you wouldn't need the install kit. Search it to be sure.

I just wanted the install kit so I can just replace some of the stuff that's on it that could be warn. But, I'm supposed to get the car by the end of this week so I'll post some pics and maybe you guys can help me with what all I should replace. Thanks, for all the help so far!!

Alright I think i'm going to change the name of this thread. I don't know if any of you have read my thread in the hangout forum but I got my car today to find out it doesn't have any compression in the engine... Does anyone around me know of anyone that's exprienced that can work on my engine for cheap. I'm not sure if it needs a new head/timing belt, or an engine rebuild....

Somewhere closer to here because i'd have to pay for towing...
